We came as part of an organised tour to Guangxi.
The Detian Transnational Waterfalls is so named because it is located in Detian Village, Shuolong Town, Daxin County. The scenic spot is located in the Baili Landscape Gallery of the Sino- Vietnamese border.
It is 57 kilometers away from Daxin County, 95 kilometers away from Chongzuo City and 196 kilometers away from Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Province.
Once you get to the Detian scenic spot, you walk down to the waterfalls! Once your at the water level of the waterfalls, highly recommend that you take a boat ride at $35 Chinese RMB per person. From the boat and shore line you can only see two tiers of the waterfalls. While the boat crosses into Vietnamese territory, you can't get off the boat! When your close to the waterfalls the spray isn't too bad! Good to get up and close to the waterfalls!
Just as you get off the boat, there is a good spot to take photos of the waterfalls from the shoreline. Also there is a section where you can walk up to take a photo alongside one of the border markers, number 836, very popular amongst the Chinese tourists! As you walk up and around the stairs to exit the waterfalls scenic spot, after some monuments along the way, on the roadway to the exit from the scenic area, there are about 5 viewing areas where you'll see all three tiers of the waterfalls! These I believe are the best spots to capture the entire waterfalls area in one photo! These waterfalls are more memorable with the Karst mountains in the background! So mesmerising!

We thought the trip out here was well worth the trip. There is a little tourist town nearby the falls but we weren't sure if foreigners could stay in the area or not so we chose to bus in. The waterfall area is great and you can spend a few hours here enjoying the views and there are some well groomed trails to walk around to get all sorts of views from the China side. We got out there after a good rainfall so the water was nice and clear with all sorts of blue and green hues. There are rafts that can take you close and many viewing platforms that give you all sorts of views. The Vietnam side is marked with many Vietnamese flags and is definitely not as built up but there is a Sino-Vietnamese Street at the top of the falls that you might be able to cross into Vietnam outside of covid times but again there is nothing really there. The vendors were maybe 30% closed when we went but they were selling some Vietnamese style souvenirs and food like sandals, wooden utensils and coffee. Some of the shops advertised salad rolls and banh mi sandwiches but we didn't try.

We did a day trip from Nanning and it can be quite a trek so plan accordingly. Currently there is a bus that departs from Langdong bus station (right outside the metro of the same name) at 8:30 am and we went the day before to buy round trip tickets for 136 yuan per person. It said online it would take 2.5 to 3 hours but it took 4.5 hours to get right to the ticket office. From there the tickets were 115 yuan each and included bus to and from the waterfall area and tickets into the park. The bus to the waterfall takes about 20 minutes. We got just over an hour in checking out the falls and boardwalk around it but missed out on the Karst formation walkways we wanted to check out. The bus waited for us to go back to Nanning right outside the ticket office and left the area at 3:30 pm. We got back into Nanning at 7:30 pm.

Recommendations we would make for our friends going is to make arrangements to stay overnight in the area for the waterfalls. The park pass is good for two days but you would have to call ahead to get a hotel to take you. When we went the bus' first stop was around 10:00 and the bathroom was not maintained well - no doors on the women's and troughs for number one and two. We made a second stop around 11:30 and the bus station was a little cleaner and the doors were there but it still was not great. If you can hold it I would say the second stop was best but the bathrooms at the ticket office are immaculate! The bus was comfortable enough and they give you a small bottle of water for each way but it was not enough so plan accordingly. There are snacks and refreshments throughout the Detian Waterfall area but the bus stops were pretty barren so bring your own stuff

Again, loved the waterfalls and the area was marked with the Karst formations of Guangxi. The bus ride was enjoyable too seeing the unreal landscape!

First off let me say you need to be reasonaly fit to enjoy all features of this park. As a foreigner we found it necessary to obtain tickets at the visitor centre some 15kms distant from the park entry. There are ticket machines at the actual park entrance but these would not work for our Chinese guest and rejected all attempts as a foreigner. Similarly the online ticketing facility would not accpet foreigner details. The ticket booth personnel at the park entry and at the main visitor centre spoke no English. Entry includes a return bus trip to the park entrance. You can hire English speaking guides at the visitor centre. The guide (Chinese speak only) on our bus was excellent - even advising against shopping within the park where the goods were more expensive than the same goods in shops outside the park. He held the additional tickets for the boat ride up to the falls (30RMB) and also the mechanised 'path' (58RMB). There are 2 main, one way, visitor routes around the park. One is by foot, the other includes mechanised people movers at a considerable height above the park. These are rubberised belts that you sit on. Entry to the upward lift is via 2 flights of some 250 steps of stairway; frankly I gave up at the first staging area - half way to the top. The paths around the park are now paved and equipped with stairways (in wood and concrete, the latter with a timber appearance). These stairways are quite steep and numerous, hence the need for fitness. We travelled here by road from Beihai. Basically Highway S60 and then to County Road S325. We ran into a check point after being on S325; the officials were very friendly and we were passed through, after showing our visas, in no time. After hours on S60 the motoring around the county roads was a dream - much like the UK country roads\lanes. Gorgeous countryside everwhere, including off S60.

I visited this waterfall a few days after going to Huangguoshu Waterfall. I liked this one so much better.

The scenery is much more beautiful and it was not as crowded. It may not be as big as some of the other parks, but I enjoyed the time I spent here so much more.

It is located on the border with Vietnam, but you cannot cross into Vietnam.

I would recommend a 1-2 night stay in Daxin county, but take the bus from Nanning, do not take the train because a taxi will cost you over 200 yuan. The street you will stay on only has a couple of hotels that serve all your meals (extra expense), but the waterfall is less than 1 hour away. A van will pick you up and you might pay 30 yuan for the roundtrip fare. You will pay the driver a separate fee into the waterfall.

Once inside, take your time. There are some places to sit and relax, unlike Huangguoshu where you have to keep moving.

You can get up close to the fall because there are various platforms. The paths through the woods are also beautiful.

We stayed just outside the waterfall. We stayed at Detian Pubuqing Hotel who got tickets for us for the following day. He said tickets can be brought from Trip. To get to the waterfall you go over the road, past all the shops and go into the big building with people getting on the bus. Go right, towards the men's toilet and there is a left near the entry. Keep walking through the doors to the men who will scan your tickets and you are at the entry to the waterfall. We didn't realise how close we were staying. We went in the morning and since we were so close we wondered if our ticket was for the day-we took it and tried our ticket late afternoon but it didn't work, they are a once only admit. We were here in January which isn't meant to be the best time but the waterfall still looked impressive to me.

I loved the place, but I couldn´t use the boat to take a closer view, it was rainning and the river was a little bit dangerous, there is a market at the end of the tour and the coffee was delicious. Is better to take food fom your hotel and water also. I recommend to go at morning, as early as you can.

We googled how to get there. We read about a shuttle which was meant to take us there in 3h. We asked at the front desk and this information wasn’t true. We took a direct bus at Langdong Bus Station (琅东客运站) in Nanning. It departed at 8:30 am, and the returning bus to Nanning is at 4:30 p.m. The journey takes about 5 hours and it cost ¥130 in total. Please remember to show your passport. On the way there, a lady sold us tickets for ¥105. We apparently could jump the queue but we never did that.
There are nice restaurants around there and the views are stunning.

Superb scenic while walking around the Detain Waterfalls at the border of China and Vietnam at the Guangxi Province. The scenic is just breathtaking. The walk from along the river side to a climb up to the Waterfalls. Both angles give you a different feel of the famous Waterfalls. Do not miss this attraction.

Wherever we travel we deliberately seek out waterfalls. They are geographic features unique to our solar system (and perhaps our galaxy) because they require moderate temperatures, liquid water, and a significant amount of gravity. The consequence of this unusual combination of circumstances is always interesting, and sometimes magnificent and glorious! I like the way water can be flowing calmly and unsuspectingly along a stream and then, suddenly, the stream-bed drops out from underneath, it catapults off a precipice and thunders down rocky crags, and explodes into spray as it crashes onto the surface of the pool below. Then if flows peacefully again along the stream as if nothing had happened. It reminds me of the trajectory of my life—I’ve been on assignment in Asia which has been like a travel-filled crazy burst between calm flows. The Detian waterfall is on the border of China and Vietnam. My wife and I flew 3 hours from Shanghai to Nanning, then took a 5 hour bus ride to the entrance of this Chinese National park, rode a 20 minute shuttle, and then hiked another 20 minutes to get here (yes, as a matter of fact, we ARE serious about chasing waterfalls). It was WORTH IT! The photos can’t begin to capture the scale and beauty of the scene. It’s apparently a “destination” from the Vietnam side (although it’s even harder to reach), but we were the ONLY westerners on the China side. Even our go-to tour company in China doesn’t have it on their list, and hadn’t seemed to have heard of it. If you’re making a trip to China (or Vietnam) I highly recommend it!
