Have been for three trips to Raro, and use The Big Fish each time, always a great experience. Varied dives, from lovely 'sand rivers' flowing out from the coral barrier reef, to coral caves, several smaller wrecks, turtles every visit, whales a few times, the life is amazing.
Can't wait for this lockdown BS to end so I can go back.

We were so lucky to have chosen the Big Fish for our diving experience. They were fantastic! Professional, friendly and knowledgeable. We had the best weather conditions too, which made a difference. All of the staff were great, especially Alex, who made sure that we were all comfortable and looked after.

I can't compare this dive shop with others as my first ever lagoon dive was with Big Fish.
I first had into to gear at resort pool with shop owner. She took her time to explain all the parts and technical details of equipment.
Next day I went with Alex to lagoon. Water conditions were not great. Very strong current was pushing us to shore but once she realized that i was comfortable swimming with the gear, she took me to another end of the lagoon and I had an amazing hour of underwater sightseeing. It was the most magical experience.

The Dive Centre is a small well run, safety oriented, self sufficient operation. Sabina runs the office with Sasha who captains the boat and maintains the equipment. They have great equipment, an excellent boat and emphasize safety in all aspects of their operation.
I did 8 dives on 4 trips with Alex. Aussie Alex from Perth is the prettiest Dive-master I have ever had, but make no mistake she is all about safety from pre-dive plan to post-dive debriefing. The boat can handle more that 6 divers but that is the limit. Sasha picked the dive sites and stays in the boat for safety while we dove. Alex was patient with all the divers on each dive and allowed us to roam around while ensuring we stayed on route. I photographed turtles, lionfish, a reef shark and so many other fish and coral formations it was incredible.Back at the shop Alex reviewed not only the dive data but also what we had seen because you tend to forget when overwhelmed with sights.
All-in-all great dives with great divers and a great dive operation.

We had an awesome time diving with The Big Fish. Staff and owners are friendly, helpful, and took great care of us from reserving our requested dives online to getting fitted with gear a day early. We dove 2 days and visited 4 dive sites with amazing coral growth and unique marine life at each location. They were also very child friendly and our 12 year old had a great time. Would definitely recommend diving Rarotonga with them!

When I turned up on the dive day the previously pleasant enough South African lady was sort of sour-faced, huffy and impatient from the start. When asked by her colleague about a dive log and I said I didn't keep one, SA lady said, 'She's ONLY got 15 dives', as if that was something to be ashamed of or something. As I'm not 12, I just ignored it. Anyway, she gave me some fins, one of which was so badly cracked at both sides that it bent at 90 degrees with every flip. I noticed immediately and asked for a new pair, which caused some huffing and puffing, but she gave me a new pair...though she didn't, as I noticed when on the boat and it was too late to change.
My regulator at first seemed to be leaky, which brings me onto the second objectionable member of staff, Sacha. He was leading the dive from the boat. I asked him about my regulator, and the nice staff member Zara had said I could use a spare tank as mine had leaked out quite a bit of air. He was already a bit huffy as I had asked to borrow his phone. 'Later' was the reply (at least he did let me use it later). When I was saying about the spare tank of air he insisted no, this one (the one with some air leaked out) is yours. He then appeared to put a new O ring in the regulator, indicating to me that it hadn't been checked prior to loading onto the boat - why? This was in between the two dives. There wasn't that much to see down there anyway so I didn't care enough to insist, nor with the broken fins.
I would avoid!

I had decided long ago that diving was not for me. I thought I would be claustrophobic underwater. But then the owner, Sabine, told me her personal story. So, with her gentle encouragement, and my husband's excitement at having me share his joy of diving, I took the plunge.
Am I glad I did! It was much easier than I expected. And the fact that I was diving in the lagoon first, took away all fear. I saw more marine life than if I had been snorkeling, and it was more pleasant than snorkeling!
Zara, our instructress, did a great job of teaching me about the equipment and selecting the right gear for me. She made the dive easy. Although short wetsuits were provided, I did get a little cold towards the end of the dive. So if you have your own wettie, it might pay to bring it along.
It was great to come back to a nice cup of tea and a plate of fresh fruit and coconut! While enjoying the hospitality, we sat at the table going through the fish charts, excitedly pointing out the fish and eels we had spotted.
Overall an exhilarating experience that I would highly recommend to anyone. You can't go to Raro and not dive!

I visited Rarotonga in 2018 and went on several trips with The Dive Centre. When I returned in 2019 they were my only choice to take in the sights of Rarotonga underwater.
Sascha, Sabine and the team provide an excellent service. They focus on safety, quality briefings and display an in depth knowledge of the dive sites and what to expect.
The trips are chosen taking into account the skill set of the group, any weather that may affect the experience and the dive group are professionally escorted throughout the whole trip. The post dive de-brief includes a discussion about the site and what was seen throughout the dive/s.
Prospective divers, those needing upskilling or a refresher are well catered for in the lagoon across the road from the dive shop, I even talked my wife into a scuba experience which she thoroughly enjoyed as she felt confident with the staff.
Any new or experienced diver, and anyone who wants to add depth to their Rarotonga experience should add a trip (or more) to their itinerary.
Go with The Dive Centre, they make it easy and enjoyable to see the best of Rarotonga underwater.

My husband scuba dives and he was so excited to be diving in the Cook Island. He sat his refresher course with the Dive Centre. The instructor was Amy. She was excellent. Unfortunately during his refresher he started to feel quite unwell. He finished but opted not to go out on the dive. The Centre were very understanding and refunded his money for the dive and only charged for the refresher. Thank you Amy for your assistance and understanding.
