Atlas Obscura is one of my go-to trip research websites to learn about 'dark' tourists sites like this one. I found this place fascinating! I really needed more time, but the place was a bit crowded, and I was with someone who was not as interested in the subject matter as me.
In the displays you see various ailments, injuries and diseases preserved for viewing. Some of the displays are re-creations, as opposed to preserved specimens.
Some displays that resonated with me included the extremely disfigured skeleton, who had rickets and died during childbirth. And I did not know that as X-ray technology emerged, it was used as a 'side show' during carnivals - such as watching a person's heart beating for carnival-goers' viewing pleasure.
This site was not the easiest for us to find. It is tucked away in a university campus, and we had to go up a zig-zag pedestrian ramp from the street level to find it.
I was really looking forward to the gift shop there. When arriving, it looked like they had some unique gift items (e.g., plush toys of parasites/diseases). However, by the time I finished the tour, the shop was closed for a 30 minute break. However, no operation hours were posted on the door. So if you are looking forward to the gift shop like I was, and it's open when you arrive, perhaps start there!
If this kind of tourist site interests you, then you will probably also like the nearby Josephinum medical museum, which has wax medical models.

Amazing new museum, newly completed.
Open Saturday until 6pm despite google saying otherwise. Go on the tour. It’s even better than the exhibit. Easy to find! Just walked across park from street car stop.

Wow! Since the museum had a huge renovation in 2022? It is much better than all these reviews had me expecting. I arrived at 4pm on Saturday (it’s open until 6pm) a German tour was just going so I looked around the lower floor for an hour which had so many examples and detailed English descriptions of afflictions of the human body and some interactive exhibits. Photography is not ethical as these are real people.
At 5pm an English tour took us upstairs, the extra for the tour is worth it! Another hour tour around even more exhibits. They have over 50,000. Anyone interested in the body or medicine should attend. Discount for students and you can get a combined ticket to the natural history museum for another day.
Really loved this.

Sehr empfehlenswert!

Sounds like there has been a lot of work on the exhibition since previous reviews. The whole of the ground floor was open & all of the exhibitions had both German & English signs so was very easy to understand. Not for the faint hearted, read up on what you are visiting. I found it very interesting, would recommend.
We found it easy to find, on foot & following Google maps. I can see why people may have struggled to find it if in a car.
Staff very friendly. Free lockers to leave your bags.
Not sure if they are renovating the rest of the building, would have been good to see the other floors.
