We took the kids to experience some old school amusement park and midway. They also have a giant rollercoaster. Everyone had a fun time. It could use some upgrades, but we had fun.

Reading another reviewer's disgust at the worn paint on the carousel animals made me chuckle a little bit, because those carousel animals are old, rare, and VALUABLE. I was happy my kids got to ride on them.
The trip to Lakeside was one of the few points on our vacation where I didn't feel like my pocket was being picked by corporate entertainment. The sense of history in this place charmed my wife and I, and the kids loved the rides and games. The afternoon and evening we were there, the wait for rides and refreshments was non-existent-- I wait longer in line at the grocery store. One of the ride operators even ran one of the kiddie rides just for my 3-year-old son, when no other kids were showing interest.
Now, when a park doesn't charge an arm and a leg, you can tell they don't have that extra money to put back into upkeep. But conditions weren't "third-world", by any means. Some of the guests were obviously lower-income people and their families, but what would you expect? The deal is too good to pass up, especially if you are on a budget.
It somewhat concerns me that they DON'T charge more, because I wonder how long this business can sustain itself at these prices...which might be an incentive to anyone on the fence about visiting: do it while you can.

Being on a tight schedule as I drove from St. George, UT. to Denver, CO. earlier the day of my visit, I only had about an hour to visit Lakeside, which was not enough time to fully enjoy the park. Parking outside the park is limited. When I walked to the parking gate, I was told that I had to have cash as the park only accepts cash; this caught me very off guard, and I was told by the attendants to go across a dangerous four-lane street to the ATM at the gas station (the stoplight was a couple blocks from Lakeside). Once I received the cash, I walked back across the street, and my friend and I was admitted into the park. Park admission was only $4.00 at the parking stalls, which includes a rebate for the unlimited wristband. At the time I researched the park, the park showed $16 for an unlimited wristband (now $17 online and $26 for weekends and holidays). However, at the ticket window, I saw a price of $13.50 for Mondays through Fridays and $22.50 for weekends and holidays. This was conflicting information from their website; usually, amusement and theme parks are professional enough to post consistent and correct prices.
Once inside Lakeside, I was surprised of the retro atmosphere that Lakeside emanated. The nostalgic details were from the classic entrance with the tower to the ride signs and guide signs. I noticed four unique classic thrill rides that I was amazed to see—Eyerly Rock-O-Plane, Eyerly Roll-O-Plane, Eyerly Loop-O-Plane (common at carnivals yet rare in stationary amusement parks), and a W.F. Mangels Whip! Seeing the Whip really shocked me as I have normally seen them at parks in the eastern US! When I saw those particular rides, I knew that I was in for a rare treat. However, I did not get a chance to ride the Rock-O-Plane, Roll-O-Plane, and Loop-O-Plane due to time constraints. The park showed signs of being dilapidated and in need of TLC as paint and panels were chipped off in places. Some unused buildings showed decay. One eye opener was their defunct Ferris Wheel-type ride; it had foliage growing through the ride. Also, The Spider, an Eyerly Octopus ride, was completely gone without any mention of it being in rehab. Seeing the debris around the ride showed a potential hazard if one was to get near the ride. Despite this, the park looked quite cool as a backdrop by Lake Rhoda. Some other rides they have include a Matterhorn, Flying Dutchman, Bumper Boats, train, Go Karts, a Rocket Jets-type of ride (Satellite), Larson Drop Tower, Sellner Tilt-a-Whirl, Eli Bridge Scrambler, bumper cars, Ferris Wheel, Hrubetz Round Up, and a few junior rides.
Wild Chipmunk was my first coaster to experience at Lakeside; this Miler Wild Mouse is only two remaining of the classic style with the other one being Cyclone at Wonderland in Amarillo, TX. One model I rode used to be at Adventure City in Anaheim, CA, Tree Top Racers (Rewind Racers is currently in its place). Scandia Sacramento has an updated model entitled Crazy Dane Coaster. A cool feature of the Wild Chipmunk cars is that they are named after each of the chipmunks from Alvin and the Chipmunks! A ride on this classic ride was wild and fun.
The Ed Vettel Cyclone was my second and final coaster to experience. This ACE Coaster Classic and ACE Coaster Landmark has cool airtime and has elements that are reminiscent of Conneaut Lake Park’s Blue Streak (e.g., long tunnel, no railing along one side of the coaster, etc.). I loved how the park used the original Vettel trains, which created a classic experience!
As I walked around the park in the dark, I noticed that the Wisdom Dragon Coaster was sadly down for the day. Next, I saw a rare W.F. Mangels Whip ride! I hopped onto the ride, and it brought back memories of the parks of the eastern US that have a Whip ride (e.g., Kennywood, Knoebels, Dorney Park, Hersheypark, etc.). Then, I wanted to try out their Miler Kiddie Coaster. When I was about to board, I was admonished by the ride operator that there was an age limit to ride as only kids 12 and under can ride. I explained that I rode an exact model at Castle Park the month prior to this visit; during that visit to Castle Park, only three adults can ride at a time. After my explanation, I was told to leave the line. When searching for signage of this information, no signage of this policy was present except for the following: “You must be at least 36” tall to ride.” So, I qualified for the minimum 36” height limit. Also, their website had no information in regard to this policy; this proved the shady and ambiguous operations. As a result of this unfortunate experience, my friend and I immediately left Lakeside. Another operational issue was that the park allowed smoking in lines (this was obvious when in line for Cyclone). Also, on the park website, it says to call the park to ensure that the gates are open as they are a very rare park to close their admission gates very early. The calendar is also not updated as one can see the schedule for the prior year when the park season opens as I learned twice. In regard to the calendar issue, I have yet to receive an e-mail response from Lakeside.
My Park Ratings:
Excitement: 2 (The shady operations created a lack of excitement.)

Old school amusement park. It teeters on death trap feeling on some of the rides. You can get deals in sunday denver post as well as hotels have discount hotel racks and you can get a discount there as well. It is like a carnival and it has allot of historic value and is great if you are a photographer.

I did enjoy going to this place as it was so old and full of cool things to look at. We rode one ride and thought we were going to need a wheelchair we were so banged up for the roller coaster. Dang, we hurt! This place would be the perfect place to have a Halloween Carnival. I wish I could have seen it in its heyday,

We went on a Sunday night, thought this would be a perfect way to end our summer. For a $100 for a family of four, this was super expensive. Especially since some rides were broken down, there is trash all over the place, weeds, muddy water. I get this is a historical landmark but Heritage Square cleans their place better than this place. They also are cheaper and the games work. Not worth it!

I had driven by this place hundreds of times and always wanted to stop in, at least to walk around and see an amusement park along a lake, take a stroll during the sunset or twilight. I went with my daughter, my niece and her 11 month old baby and we had a BLAST! Haven't laughed so hard in a long time. The place does show a little wear and tear, and there are some rides that have started to fall apart and are now fenced off and part of the history. But, the rides we went on were so much fun, and we never had to wait in line! Most rides the toddler could not meet the height requirements, but we did take him on one ride that was questionable, but when we asked the attendant if we could take the baby he said, "well that's up to you". We took him and it all worked out great. The little guy loved the train ride around the lake. And i could not stop laughing when the conductor told me, "the dining car will be open as soon as we get underway". The food was also perfect for an amusement park, hamburgers, hot dogs, fries (that they made fresh for us). We will be back. Oh and it only cost $4 to get in, and then between $1 to $3 per ride, or you can get a wristband and ride all day for more$. There were times when it felt like we were in a scary movie or a time warp but that just added to the charm. And everyone there was super friendly, the workers and the customers. You just have to go.

This is a very historic park but it is really falling apart and neglected. I don't see how this place can sustain itself for many more years at this rate of neglect. There are rides that have been partially disassembled with just the skeletal remnants remaining for years now. Lots of trash in all the corners near the rides, abandoned video games in one corner, and the whole place is just grimy, dusty, and needs a deep cleaning. It appears there is little to no effort going to preservation of this place which is a shame because it has been around forever. I would have liked to see it decades ago in its prime like the historic pictures show. The smell of cigarette smoke was nearly everywhere and the train ride was particularly stinky. It is definitely cheaper than Elitch Gardens but know that you will have to put up with the grime, trash and smell. Young children don't seem to mind or even notice but older teens and adults will not find this place acceptable or their money well-spent there when other choices exist in town.

We go every year and I grew up going to this park. It is such a rarity and the owners are longtime family members who believe in keeping it open for the public and making it affordable (you can even bring your own food!) If you don't know the history do some searching. It's pretty incredible. It is an amazing place that could never be duplicated. The wooden roller coaster is incredible and a marvel when you consider its age and retro flair. The first hill is also just amazing. The kids will love kiddie land! There are other fun rides. Yes it could stand some maintenance but it's also sort of perfect with it's own patina. Look at the details on the carousel, see the old decommissioned star ride, check out the original soda fountain. When you're done you will know what the illuminated "REDIT" means on the tower.

When the park opens at 12:00, what time does the adult rides open? Thanks
I am usually the Ferris wheel operator or train engineer. I’m usually ready for guests at about half past. 5:30 on Friday and 12:30 Saturday and Sunday.

Does anyone have any information on how to obtain a photo permit?
I have tried calling (~7 times), emailing (~4 times), and going to the office in person over the last 6 weeks. No one has replied to my messages.
If anyone has a name or any information on how to get a photo permit that would be greatly appreciated!

Well, yes, they do have restrictions on taking pictures. If you are taking "family" shots, that's okay. But, if you are taking pictures of the park, the architecture, or anything but other people, they do not allow it. They don't even allow it with any kind of permit.
If you are planning on going there with your family, and want to take pictures of your family enjoying the rides, they probably won't bother you, and, if they do, they'll just ask you to sign an agreement saying you won't sell any of the pictures.
If you are planning on going there to take pictures of the architecture, go straight to the security office once you arrive, and explain to them what you want to do. They'll probably tell you what I just told you.
I do not know the reasoning, but I suspect it is because they want to "sell" the pictures of their historic park, contract for royalties, or otherwise make money off the deal.
The park is cool, and historic, but they are a bit protective about their legal rights. It probably has something to do with the accident at the stock car track they used to run, (you will see it just south and west of the park. In 1984, a stock car lost control, ended up in the stands, and killed a spectator. The park was sued, shut down the stock car racing, and the track has sat there rotting ever since. They don't even paint it.
