Hard to find the parking spot, we weren't sure if we had arrived. Walked down the path to find sign with some explanation of the site. Continued up the path and ran into woman talking to Russ, who gave us a hand-drawn map that Russ had made and welcomed us to look around the adjacent old home with keepsakes Russ had collected, and explained the map to us. We came upon one sunken area with a small sign explaining that it was the site of an historic dwelling. We got lost once or twice -hard to follow the map. Saw no other signs of explanation but did see a couple of other sunken areas which perhaps were excavated remains of homesites? It is a shame that there is not more signage to prevent getting lost and to better tell the story of this site. Nevertheless, it is a very nice place to take a leisurely stroll.

I have been here with family and friends and dogs. It is a beautiful place to just sit, let the dogs run around and take a deep breath. I bring a snack and water for the dogs and myself and sit there for hours. My friend Frank started taking me there a few years ago and I have continued to go with my family. There is so much history of Monson here. You won't be disappointed.

Five of us: ages from 76 to 7. Easy stroll down stonewall path to caretakers cabin. He's a man in his 90's who gave the history and shared exquisite drawings of his relatives. Afterwards an easy hike around marked trail. Took a lot of pictures.

The East side of Federal Hill is where historic Monson village was and the West side has miles of trails connecting to the Brookline and Hollis trail networks. Great place for a hike, dog friendly.

Easy to enjoy the field, the stonewall, the trails and the view. The trails are easy and the history is great to get acquainted with areas of the town you live in.

Lots of trails and water/pond views. Level ground for the most part so it's good for any age. Dogs welcome. Visitor center is run by a descendant of the original farmer. Worth a stop to see him.

We usually snowmobile through the Monson, but we have also hiked it in the spring through the fall, and even snowshoed it. The trails are marvelously kept up throughout the year by the Hollis snowmobile club. A great little piece of history in beautiful surroundings. There is plenty of parking in front of the trailhead and across the street.

A great place for a hike back in time. The hike is easy for anyone and if your lucky, like we were, the one restored home will be open. The person there was a descendent of the family that originally lived in the house. Great story about the town. What's more is if you are from the area you will learn a lot about the families that still live in the area.

Beyond all of that it's a great hike and fun to imagine walking to a town meeting 100 years ago. You almost expect to see someone on the road from then.

Gives the kids room to run.

It's not really an attraction, there is a house with some old furnishings and a few old foundations.

It is a nice place to walk the trails and there is a big field to play in. Great place for a frisbee.

On Federal Hill Road, just about where Hollis and Milford meet, there's a small parking lot. From there hikers walk down to the beginning of the trails. First you come to a restored house from the past. There are several trails, most of which lead to a pond at the end where there is a heron rookery. In June there is an incredible bloom of Mountain Laurel. It is a relatively easy walk and dogs are welcome. Along the way you will see signs with information about the various cellar holes where the houses of Monson Village were located. Perhaps you'll encounter the "caretaker" and his dog, who "hang out" at the restored house. He can give you lots of information about Monson.
