Wormsloe Historic Site in Savannah is a Southern paradise, where time stands still amidst majestic live oak trees draped in Spanish moss. The centuries-old trees form a natural canopy, revealing layers of history and splendor with every step. Exploring the well-preserved colonial estate, we marveled at the enchanting atmosphere created by sprawling branches and mossy adornments. Amidst the tabby walls' ruins, we envisioned the past and admired Wormsloe's resilience. The site's historical significance and meticulous preservation efforts were evident, making our visit a serendipitous encounter with Savannah's rich history. Lucky to experience this timeless beauty, Wormsloe seamlessly blends nature and history, leaving an indelible mark on the soul of the Old South.

Last ticket sells and gates close at 4:30pm even though posted closing time is 5:00pm. I arrived at 4:28pm and was refused ticket. I explained I was from out of state and just wanted to stroll through the live oak drive. Important note for this review…if planning a quick trip arrive well in advance of 4:30.

So disappointing. Only impressive thing about it is driving through the entrance. Beyond that it is seriously just a walk in the woods. Can’t believe they charge admission for this.

We were visiting a friend in Savannah who recommended this place. After paying $30 for admission, we drove down the beautiful drive between the oaks. We took the guided tour which was a joke. The tabby ruins are nothing special, and the plantation house is a private residence so you can't even see it from the road. Basically we paid $30 for a nature walk which we could do at our campground at Skidaway Island for free. Save your money and watch a YouTube video on this place.

A wonderful 3 hour adventure in nature and history.
We hiked the orange trail after exploring the grounds and bird watching. Lots of birds to be heard, seen and discovered. I was hoping to see the painted bunting and ruby throated hummingbird and saw a number of other varieties as I am a new birder.
The area is packed with both natural and historical experiences.
If you’re looking for man made sensationalism you won’t find it here. If you’re looking for peace, tranquility, adventure and exploration, this is your sightseeing spot.

We finally made it to this historical plantation park. They are only open till 5pm so make sure to get there early to see all of Wormsloe! There is a charge just $11/adult. We took in much of this place both by listening to the past stories of the land from the park rangers and venturing off ourselves down all the many pathways located there. We had a nice 3 mile hike on the orange trail that leads you through the woods and across many nature points. (Other trails are shorter) There are no bikes allowed on any of the trails FYI only hiking and dog walking. There is a lot of history in GA and SC throughout all the state and national parks. The historic value of these areas to myself is to learn about how things were done in the past so not to repeat them in the future unless they benefit everyone equally. Bring your picnic, plenty of water, snacks, and your walking shoes. If you have a clean car do not go here your car will get dusty. You can spend a day here and not take in all of the historic value. We were able to see some demonstrations of how they lived in the 1800’s as well. All the park rangers and employees of this location were very informative. Thank you!

A beautiful stroll through and iconic and picturesque former plantation. The arching live oaks and Spanish moss frame a stunning mile-long drive into the park. Snap away. $13/pp

Go when it’s not August!! Take bug spray! It was to hot for the people to be out doing any demonstrations. The museum is really small and the video didn’t work. The least favorite thing we did on this trip!

This is an interesting and beautiful place to visit. You can do a short trail walk (less than a mile) or a longer one (little over 2 miles). The park personnel are friendly and provides tips and information to make the most of the visit.

If you are only interested in the tree lane, there are really two options here for visiting the iconic tree lane. You can park for 5 minutes and stand at the sign for the road and take pictures and look. Or you can park and get tickets for the plantation. Then you can drive down the lane of trees and stay until they close. *This is not where Forest Gump ran. It looks similar, however.
The plantation belongs to the family of Noble Jones. Family members still live on property in a private residence. The tour of the plantation is self-guided. There is a small museum with a video. Bring water and comfortable shoes. The plantation is through wooded areas on gravel paths. We saw lots of skinks in the woods and crabs along the shore. The fortified walls of the original house remain, the site of the original grave is marked (although the remains are no longer there), the banks of oysters from Native American piles, and a few colonial houses are along the paths. The path is at least a mile to see the historic sites, and there are additional paths you can walk if you are so inclined.

There is no info that I’ve found other than golf carts are prohibited on trails and when we were there, we did not see any bikes.

My friend cannot walk too far. How far of a walk from parking area to ruins? To museum? And to any old buildings?

From the parking area to the gift shop is like a normal walk form a parking area to the store. Maybe like 30 feet if you park close. The house ruins was about 300 yards away from the parking lot if I remember the guide correctly and on uneven trails, and surfaces. I didnt visit the museum, so I can’t guide you there.

The tour takes a few hours, but you can also just walk the grounds yourself, too. You see the different trails, the buildings where the former owners lived, as well as ruins of other buildings.

Can you just stop and see the oak-lined drive /take pictures but not pay for the tour? Just want to see the beautiful trees!

You can pull in and park at the ticket station just inside the gate. They don't appear to mind if you take photos from there, but you'd need to purchase a ticket to proceed any further. That is the start of the tree-lined road, so you can get a decent photo there.

However you get there, take your time. The drive under the canopy of live oaks draped with Spanish moss is breathtakingly beautiful.
Whenever I try to explain the beauty of Savannah, I can't help but describe this drive.
