You might wonder if cars are a thing of the past in Boulder, where a majority of the population seems to be on two wheels. But bicycles symbolize the outdoors, and if there's one thing that unites Boulder residents and visitors alike, it's a love of the great outdoors. The fantastic climate, wide open spaces, scenic mountains and plethora of parks draw outdoor enthusiasts from miles around to this beautiful town at the foothills of the Flatiron Mountains. Some of the best rock climbing in the world is available; the skiing is world class and hikers gravitate to the area's more than 200 trails, many in Chautauqua Park. Like most college towns, the atmosphere here is hip, laid-back and artsy. A lively cultural scene includes several prominent museums as well as the Fiske Planetarium. Chill out with a stroll through the Pearl Street Mall, a great place to shop, try a vegetarian restaurant, people watch at a sidewalk café or enjoy street performers. Visit museums, take in a show and experience the lively nightlife - Boulder rocks when the sun goes down.

Don those cowboy boots and journey back to the Wild, Wild West in this frontier city, tamed, of course, but with the western spirit alive and kicking. If your weekend getaway to Wyoming's capital and largest city starts on Friday, take the whole family to the Friday night rodeo to get in the spirit of things. In keeping with the cowboy frame of mind, take a horseback tour on the Outlaw Trail, the very same route used by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, among other notorious outlaws, to evade the authorities. Or visit the Terry Bison Ranch, where you can hop on a horse or horse-drawn wagon, tour the winery and see the several thousand bison that live here. History buffs will enjoy the inviting Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum, which houses one of the best western horse-drawn wagon collections in the U.S. For a political perspective, visit the Corinthian-style Capitol building or the Historic Governor's Mansion. There are plenty of family-oriented attractions, but if the kids want something all their own, take them to the IKON Center for arcade games, laser tag and more. Whether it's rodeos, golf, parks, national forests, museums or symphony, there's no shortage of options here to plan a fantastic weekend.
