Mary Hill is the most wonderful, generous host we could have hoped for. My girlfriend and I spent the weekend in Charlottesville with only two destinations in mind - Blenheim Vineyards and the Downtown Mall. Mary Hill was extrememly helpful in making several suggestions to fill the rest of our time. Each morning, she had a magnificent meal prepared for us, bakery-fresh brioche toast, marmalade, bacon, eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit, and coffee! We talked with Mary Hill for over an hour during breakfast. She has been a resident for several years, and is incredibly knowlegeable about the area and its history. Her dog, Copper is very friendly, too. The room itself is actually two rooms plus a bathroom, which comprises the entire second floor. There is access to the main floor via a stairway inside the house, and also a seperate entrance outside for us to come and go as we please without disturbing Mary Hill or Copper. The bedroom is spacious and filled with knicknacks, trinkets, and books, some of which are very old. The house dates back to the 1800's if I remember correctly, but it was never drafty. There is a fireplace in the adjoining common area (Mary Hill keeps a stock of wood), as well as a sofa, chair, and TV. The biggest surprise was the bathroom. There is an old style footed tub! A shower attachment has been added, but we had fun feeling like kids in the tub. The Quarters is directly accross the street from the end of UVA's frat row, but we had no issues with noise or general rowdiness at all. This may change depending upon the campus activities, sports, graduation, etc, but we had no complaints about our neighbors. On Friday an Saturday night, we stopped by the Downtown Mall (outdoor mall) for dinner, walking, shopping, which is just one mile away. Saturday afternoon, a beautiful 20 minute drive through rolling hills and vineyards on our way to Blenheim. Sunday morning we took a leisurely stroll around the campus. Great location. Overall, our experience was absolutely delightful. Mary Hill is the definition of southern hospitality. We plan to stop by to visit with her again soon. Hope this has been helpful!…
