We moved along the Matsuzaka Castle and Ishigaki from the castle guard house to Haniwa-kan on foot and realized the splendidness of this stone wall. Forty-five years ago, the Nozokumi stone wall was used as a contrast to the usual Nozokumi stone wall, and this one is a magnificent piece of work, with a certain height. The [100 Great Castles of Japan] is located at the Motoori Norinaga Memorial Museum.

Hirayama Castle is about a 15-minute walk from Matsusaka Station, and there are no remaining buildings such as Tenshu or Yagura, only stone walls, but you can see the great stone walls of Nozakami from the Gamo clan and the arsenic-masonry stone walls from the Edo period. Only Honmaru and Ninomaru castles exist today, and Sannomaru and other buildings have no trace of their time when public facilities such as schools and hospitals were built, similar to the ruins of castles that were destroyed by the Decree of Destruction after the Meiji Restoration.

The current city name uses the character 阪, but the castle name is 坂.
Old kanji characters are used differently by different people. Osaka is now called Kozato, but the castle from that time, such as the Summer Siege of Osaka, is called Osaka Castle. It's about a 10-minute walk from the station. It's a flatland castle on a small hill. The stone walls remain, but there are no buildings. Nothing has been restored. In a way, it's neat. At the castle ruins are the History and Folklore Museum and the Motoori Norinaga Memorial Museum. Since it's a flatland castle in the plain, the view is quite good. There is a plum grove under the castle tower, so you can enjoy cherry blossom viewing in the plum season. It was built when Gamo Ujisato was bestowed Minamiise by Hideyoshi in 1588. After Ujisato was transferred to Aizu, the Hattori clan and the Furuta clan took over, but it eventually became the territory of the Kishu domain and became the domain's jinya. It is apparently designated as one of the 100 most famous castles in Japan. What's nice about the castle ruins is that there aren't many unnecessary things around and it's quite neat.

紀州藩の城代が置かれた平山城です。天守台まで登ると遠くまで見渡すことが出来ます。また城内では梅が満開でした。お天気も良く、気持ちよく見ることが出来ました。

街中の城跡なので多少堀と石垣があるくらいかな？と思っていました。
そして入口でその予想は見事に裏切られました。
城跡内を急な坂と石段を上ると意外と眺めが良かったです。
これに天守閣があったんだから昔の城主はもっと良い景色を見ていたんだなと思います。
天守閣がないのがもったいない城跡でした。

春は、桜が綺麗でした。藤棚も有り花が綺麗に見えます。ここから見る景色は、御城番屋敷を含め最高です。ただ、危ない箇所が有るので手すり、フェンス等が必要と思いました。階段、坂、少し足が悪い方は注意が必要です。

伊勢の松阪は、藤堂家による築城で城下町として栄えました。しかしながら、残念なことに明治の廃城令で天守閣は取り潰されてしまいました。今は小高い丘の上に、城跡だけが残っています。また松阪という町は宣長先生の旧居や博物館など、そこかしこにい息吹が残っているように感ぜられました。
