This is a wonderful nature hike in a lush forest with almost 48 falls. We were lucky to spot one of the huge salamanders moving among the boulder streams. It was as large as a cat. Their cousins in China can grow to the size of a person. There were also children training or playing to be Ninjas. The trail is well organized and fun.

I heard it was about an hour and a half each way, but the trip was slow, so I spent about five hours round trip and enjoyed it.
It is full of highlights, including the popular number one "Katan Falls", as well as the Hinadan Falls and Nunobiki Falls. You could buy plastic bottled beverages along the way, but it would be convenient to bring your own. I also think we need a fan for fanning.

We arrived just after 9am on Saturday morning, so the parking lot was empty, but by the time we left, it was full. Furthermore, it is cool in the morning, so I recommend the first thing in the morning.
At the Akame-taki Aquarium (formerly the Japan Salamander Center) at the entrance, you pay an entrance fee (valley conservation fee) of 1,000 yen and start walking. After walking past Gyoja Falls and watching Choshi Falls, the sound of water starts to reverberate. It is a pretty fine waterfall. Beyond that is Fudo Falls, one of the Akame Five Falls. The view from the Fudō Bridge over the valley is spectacular, but until the middle of the Meiji period, it was impossible to set foot in the old-growth forest in the back.
Going further, you will see Otome Falls, which looks like a river step, and Dainichi Falls, which you might miss because it is to the right, and the beautiful Senju Falls, the second of the five waterfalls, not long after you pass the eight-mat rock. There are no toilets further than here, so be careful. From there, you can climb around a little and see the third waterfall of the five falls, Nunobiki Falls. The waterfall, which falls 30 meters high like a strip of cloth, is speechless.
It took me nearly three hours to visit all five waterfalls beyond that, so I turned around here this time.
It was a hot summer vacation down below, but it was a great hiking trail for refreshing sweat.

Located in the center of Muro Akame Aoyama Quasi-National Park, it has many waterfalls in the valley and a walking course along the mountain stream. At the Akame-taki Aquarium (reopened this spring from the Japan Salamander Center), which serves as the entrance to the valley, visitors can see a special natural monument, the giant salamander. We then enjoyed a leisurely walking course where we could see three of the three waterfalls in the Akame Five Waterfalls, which is considered to be a particular attraction within the Akame 48 Waterfalls among the three trails (walking, hiking and trekking).
As well as each waterfall, you will experience the beauty of nature and the beauty of the valley as well as plenty of forest bathing! Finally, he said, "Ah, the air was delicious."

It was a very pleasant hike for our family of 4. So yes - I would recommend it as a day trip from Osaka (where we were based).
However the trail can be steep and uneven. But it is doable for the average person.
We needed to catch the shuttle bus (which added to the fun element) which has a fixed schedule. We had been warned of this so we were prepared.
This place must be very far out (1.5 hours from Osaka) as there were not many people on the trail (another reason to go visit).
We came in December so no stunning foliage was present. But the waterfalls and tranquility of the place more than make up for it.
The people were very friendly - staff of the visitor centre, proprietress of the eatery, bus driver etc - so it added to the pleasant experience.

You can experience ninja training.
It's good value for money at 3,000 yen for adults and 2,700 yen for children for about 1.5 hours, and you can try out things like shuriken and blowguns, as well as crossing a river in a water spider.
At the end, we received a ninja certificate (scroll), which the kids were thrilled to receive.

I have traveled all over Japan to some of the most beautiful spots this country has to offer - Yakushima, Nagano, Izu, Miyakojima, and on and on - but this Akame 48 waterfalls truly stands out. It has it all - incredible history and tradition (Buddhism, Mikyo, Ninja), a moss covered hiking trail with trees hundreds of years old leading to the sublime waterfalls that nest deep within this barely known destination. There are plenty of exciting activities beyond hiking such as yoga and meditation on a newly built hinoki wood deck, river rafting and, of course, ninja shugyou experiences! Fun for children of all ages, especially adults. And finally, access from Osaka is so easy and quick and Akame is nestled between so many other beautiful sites such as Muroji temple, the Biyoubu Iwa mountain and Soni highlands. I would highly recommend spending at least two or three nights in the area and checking out all this relatively unknown area has to offer.

整備された遊歩道で渓谷沿いの滝が楽しめます。苔むした岩々も素敵です。同じ行程を往復することになりますので、体力に自信のない方は布曳滝折り返しでも十分楽しめると思います。

滝を見て歩く為には渓谷入山料５００円が必要です。オオサンショウウオセンター入館料も含まれています。
サンダルの人も見かけますが、ある程度奥へ行くならスニーカーなどの方が滑らなくて良いと思います。
東屋で少しお弁当を食べるくらいなら出来そうですが、がっつりビニールシートを敷いて過ごす人は今まで見かけた事はありません。

7月に5時頃出発した方が光芒の写真を撮られていましたので、そのぐらいの時間かと思います。
ただ、いつでも出るわけではないので、気候とタイミングは運次第ではないでしょうか？
