After leaving our hotel near Mito Station, we set out to visit Fukuroda Falls, one of the three best waterfalls in Japan. After passing through Mito City, about 50 minutes north on National Route 118 was Hitachi Omiya, a roadside station.
This road station, also known as Kawa Plaza, is located along the National Route and along the Kuji River. It was a new, big road station. The speciality section was spacious, and besides local vegetables and fruits from Hitachi-Omiya, there were also manju, pickles, and local sake. Lots of natto in straw were also lined up, and Ibaraki was in full bloom.

袋田の滝の滝により帰り道に寄りました。国道118号線沿いの大きな道の駅です。設備は農産物の直売所と食事ができるフードコート、そして久慈川まで続く大きな広場です。バーべキューもできるようです。残念だったのは飲食関係は16時で終わり、残念ながら時間が過ぎて何も食べることができませんでした。最近の道の駅閉店早すぎです。せめて19時くらいまで営業してください。補助金までもらっているんだから道の駅の設立趣旨に沿って休憩所と機能してください。

Kawa Plaza is a nice roadside station located in Hitachi Omiya city which is ideal for a variety of people, from long-distance drivers to tourists and disable people.
There was beautiful nature and many facilities to make your body and mind relax after a long day of driving. Outside, there was a large park and some playground equipment, and we could rent soccer balls and other equipment for free. This is very good for children. There were also several restaurants and souvenir shops, where you can eat delicious food made from local ingredients. I had a gelato in the attached photo.
The hours of operation at Kawa Plaza are short, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. After hours, the inside facilities such as restaurants and souvenir shops cannot be used, only the outside playground, restrooms, and small rest areas can be used. As I mentioned before, there is a lot of nature here, but there is nothing else in this area except this station.
Because the hours are short, you should visit here early. You will be able to fully enjoy many attractions both inside and outside. I would recommend visiting in the summer. There is a shallow river nearby where you can play. Please note that reservations are required to use the barbecue space. I hope you like it!

お盆お休み最終日の日曜日に行きました。11頃到着そのころはまだ駐車場はすいていました。今年はコロナのため、川で泳ぐ人が多く、たくさんの方が川で泳いでいました。レストランや、野菜直売所 が併設され楽しめます。
お弁当も種類が豊富で、お安いです。鮎の塩焼きは最高です。
結局お弁当を買い、外に出た時は駐車待ちの車で大渋滞でした。

連休中日に袋田の滝に向かう途中(AM09:00頃)トイレ休憩で寄りました。
オープン前でしたので、帰り(お昼頃)にゆっくりしようと思ったら、駐車場待ちの大大大渋滞…
人気の道の駅なんですね。
暫く並んで待ちましたが、この日は諦めて退散…
皆さん、土日祝日のお昼時は気をつけて訪問しないと入場するのに長時間待たされますょ～(。>д<)
今度は平日に訪問してみます！
