Visited just before sun set, the lighting made the whole area very beautiful. The cool breeze, the falling leaves, and smoke from the incense stick pot made the overall atmosphere memorable.

Very crowded Buddhist Temple and Shinto Shrine in Central Tokyo but well worth a visit. Plenty of touristy souvenir shops on hand. We found a small untouched cafe for some welcome refreshment

The only down-side is that it is a victim of its own success, with lots of people crowding around with the same idea. However, it is well worth the jostling as it is visually spectacular, especially as we were lucky enough to be there on a festival day when all the girls who had reached majority that year dressed in beautiful kimonos to visit the site, along with their families all in traditional dress. Be prepared to go with the flow and not rush around, just take in the atmosphere and enjoy!

Before writing any review, I must say in advance that there's some mistakes with the address of this temple. Senso-ji Temple (other name Asakusa Kanon) is located in Tokyo, not Osaka (The address is 2 Chome-3-1 Asakusa, Taito, Tokyo 111-0032, Japan). I don't know how to edit the information so I just list it out here, hoping somebody in TripAdvisor will take a look at it and double check.
The temple is large, and nice. Lot of people, not only tourists but also locals come to pray and pay respect. There are also a huge compound of shops and small local restaurants on the streets that you walk to enter the temple. So many cool items and food to shop so if possible you should plan to visit the temple on the last days, that way you don't have to drag your shopped item around (In my case, I visited this temple on the 1st day and got a huge bag of souvenirs and decorations that later I had to drag it to Kyoto and then back to Tokyo again, not a smart move). Don't hesitate to buy souvenirs/decorations in Japan, thinking you might see them everywhere in some other temples or shops. Nope. In my experience, almost all gifts/souvenirs are unique in every place.
Inside the big temple there is a very cool set of golden buddhas, but photography is prohibited and you cannot enter, just view them through a mesh fence.
On the street left side (when you come out from the temple), there's a very small restaurant that sell mochi, soup and other Japanese snack, I don't know the name but it seems to be "Dango", very easy to spot since they have a big sign of their feature soup in front of the shop. This place is great, especially in the cold days. Try their soup and sweet sake, you won't regret it.

It was crowded when we visited at around 11am. There were plenty of shops with souvenirs that you can buy. Food stores can be found nearby once you're done shopping.
