We did not know this center, being in the area we saw it on the map and decided to approach because we love animals and being able to collaborate with this center of rescue of bears, wolves and lynx seemed a good way to invest the money.
The center is very well organized, wide, clean roads and we agreed that we went mid-morning when the keepers were feeding the bears (they throw fruits and vegetables over their fences), so we could see them well. I really liked the center because it is very integrated in nature and the animals have room to move. We could enjoy how a bear bathed in a very happy fence. We also saw wolves, not like lynx, but these animals are more elusive.
There were families with children and it struck me that you could go with a dog. There are informative posters about the animals, some of them tell you not to interact with one of the wolves because he was used to being with people and the poor man almost behaved like a dog. It was also reported that there was one of the bears that self-inflicted damage, so you passed in front of him without standing and without getting his attention so as not to stress him further.
It is nice to see that in centers like these animals have a second chance after being rescued from terrible conditions (there are pictures of bears suffering things that left me marked), but at the same time sad that we do not know how to live with other living things.
I highly recommend it, time and money well invested. They were also in the works because they are expanding it, which I am happy about.

We loved it here and would highly recommend it. The enclosures for the animals were beautiful and much better than anything I’ve ever seen in any other zoo or wildlife park. We felt really lucky to see lots (maybe all) of the bears and wolves and caught the lynx at feeding time. They all looked content and happy in their environments with plenty of opportunities to hide away from human attention if they wanted to.
It doesn’t take a long time to go round, 1.5 to 2 hours is plenty. There is a cafe on site too which we didn’t use, but it looked good.

I wanted to see bears and wolves, there are both here. We saw both. We were aware that this is not a zoo. Here they try to give exploited and mistreated animals a pleasant end to their lives - something they cannot have in the wild. Well-kept enclosures - and yes, electric fences. I don't want to know how many children of visitors would have been prey otherwise. I cannot understand some of the bad reviews here. Wolves, bears and lynx are hungry - the enclosure needs to be looked after and employees need their wages. For me it was an experience and once again the realization: humans are the worst predators of all.

A wildlife park in the forest where the animals are well looked after. The animals have all been rescued from terrible living conditions and have been given a second chance. It is not easy to see all of the animals (we didn't see any lynx, for example), but in my opinion that shows that the animals are given enough space to retreat. The many information boards are very informative for children (but of course also for adults) and food stalls, tombola, etc. also provide entertainment. Dogs are welcome, which I personally think is very nice.

One cannot understand the importance of this park by perusing the other reviews here, sadly. Many, if not most of these animals have only this park, and the other animals in it, to show them how to return to themselves and begin to live again the way they should. Do not go to this park to gawk. Do go to support these mistreated animals, and to be reminded that it is not the bears, the wolves, the lynx, or even Mother Nature herself that is the problem: our buzzsaw civilization and our lifestyle is knocking out the walls of this planet, and it's only a matter of time before the roof comes tumbling down. Spend as much time as invisible supporters as you can, and be grateful to the people running the park that these animals have any chance at all.

It's a great peaceful walk around this rehabilitation centre in the black forest. Hats off to the incredible people that work with these animals to rewild them

We watched 3 bears dance and play for at least 20 minutes. I have never experienced a live performance that was so exhilarating!!

Can we get there by public transport or is a car necessary? We are travelling in Germany by train next year and would love to visit, but I am not sure if it is possible.
Thank you.

There are regional buses in this area that can take you to the park or the vicinity of the park. It is a fairly unpopulated area however so I would think that the buses don't run with great frequency. Look at this website to find the timetable for buses and trains in this area.... I can't include a web address here unfortunately, it isn't allowed... however, if you google "bus Bad Rippoldsau" the first site that should come up where you can find more information about the bus and train schedule in this area.
The website is in both German and English. Enjoy your trip to Deutschland!
