We checked the website the day before said it was open until 4th September, COMPLETE LIES ALL CLOSED NO COMMUNICATION!! there was no signage alot of cars came after who were disappointed to. Waste of time don’t bother with this place!

The tour of the house was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We went round the garden in the afternoon and the whole experience made a great day out. Luckily for us the cafe was closed that day so we didn't take our guests there. However, we thought we would try out the cafe on another day and were glad that it was closed when we had originally planned to take guests because it was very disappointing. The coronation chicken wraps were expensive and tasted horrid. The tables were sticky. Would not recommend the cafe or go there again. Pity because otherwise it is a great place to spend a day.

I was keen to visit having realised how many period dramas were filmed here. It exceeded my expectations. Took the tour of the house. Susan was an excellent guide who was informative and an effective communicator. Very engaging. Rooms are stunning, I wasn’t expecting it to feel similar to European palaces.
Gardens also good and great playground.

Made our first visit this week. Nice grounds (but perhaps not as expansive as anticipated having read other reviews). House tour was interesting. Car park was busy but we still found a space. Shop contained an interesting range of gifts. Possibly the most significant feature was the biggest adventure playground we have ever seen. Sadly we didn't have any children of the right age with us....

We had long planned to visit Wilton House, but circumstances had got in the way until today.
The wait was well worth it. This is a splendid house (and home) with the Single Cube and Double Cube rooms the highlights. And that is to say nothing about the large number of paintings of high and often outstanding quality.
The House Tour was conducted in a group of around 15 and we were very fortunate to have Jennifer as our knowledgeable and friendly guide.
The restaurant lunch was good quality and tea was served in "proper china".

The Wilton House seat is just outside of Salisbury in the neighbouring town of Wilton. It is the country house of the Earl of Pembroke and his family for over 400 years, indeed the family reside there today.
The house & gardens are open in the Summer months, you have to book a guided tour of the house.The house itself is very grand but not large. It houses an extensive collection of art and sculptures. Many famous artists have paintings on their walls including Van Dyke, Rembrandt & Holbein .
The gardens are nice to walk in and the highlight was the Palladian Bridge, great for picture opportunities, unfortunately you cannot walk over it.
We very much enjoyed Wilton House and will come again.

Well, what can I say. The weather was fabulous, which was a great start to the day.
The house is lovely and the gardens are superb. Super relaxing.
We chose to go to the café and what can I say! Such a lovely experience!
We had an Afternoon Tea for 2 and it was divine!
I was actually quite amazed with the quality of the Afternoon Tea. I have paid a lot more money for an Afternoon Tea (it was £12pp) and been extremely disappointed, but I can honestly say, this was more than adequate.
The staff are super lovely and could not do enough for us.
Totally recommend a visit to Wilton House for a relaxing day and ensure you stop by to the café!!

The Tour was fabulous as the house is magnificent, we throughly enjoyed hearing about the history and seeing the beautiful rooms. The beauty and tranquility of the garden took our breath away, absolutely stunning. I have awarded my starts based on this.
Sadly!.....
However our experience of the cafe put a shadow over our visit, deciding to have afternoon tea, we felt would complete our very English experience. It cost £25 and was awful... Skads of cake cut in half, not dainty cakes as described of the menu, sandwiches cut into triangles and not finger slices as one would expect... Certainly not worth the money, I emailed the cafe caterers , no response, so emailed Wilton house, they explained it was a separate company, they forwarded my email on and still no reply... Certainly not what one would expect from visiting an English Heritage place of historic interest. So dissapointed.

A wonderful day. We spent almost three hours meandering through the house (Being a Sunday, no tours) The guides - one in each room, rotating by the hour were absolutely astounding in their passion and knowledge. I’m not particularly well educated so I probably asked some silly and maybe obvious questions. However, their patience, understanding and kindness to listen and explain was fabulous.
Thank you to Wilton House guides, you made memories I will treasure.

It would be a good idea if the Wilton House website could be kept up to date. It stated that the grounds were closed up until 16th June but re-opening from 17th June.
It also suggested that for up to date information, the site should be checked.
I struggled down on the hottest day of the year on the 17th - it was closed.
The website still states closed up until 16th June.
What is the point.

Perché non vi è nulla, durante la visita, che accenni al fatto storico che fu proprio in quel Palazzo che si riunivano i letterati del tempo per far luogo ad un circolo di poeti e drammaturghi, ai quali si deve tanta parte della letteratura e drammaturgia inglese del tempo di Elisabetta I ? Are the gardens of interest to a flower lover? i.e. are there herbaceous borders, etc, or is it a parkland type of garden?

The gardens are more park land. There are borders and a few interesting plants in the borders.
This year unfortunately with the hot weather the lawns have suffered and they are being rested.

I will be in the area on a Saturday in mid May. It appears they are not open for tours on Saturdays (if I am reading their hours incorrectly, please advise me). If they are indeed closed on Saturdays, would I be able to still see the manor from the road if I drove there, or is the home out of view from the roadway?
