Northeast of October, where autumn has deepened. It's the best train trip to Akita with the calm Sea of Japan on my right hand side after a long absence. You can take the scenic train and enjoy the scenery of the station on the way, or listen to folk tales with Tsugaru accents on the train. It'll be a nice trip.

JR East is good at making a lot of trains that are not fun at all, even though they are called "fun trains to ride". I can't find any reason to pay the extra 840 yen to buy a reserved seat ticket for this train. It doesn't stop for long like the Kairi Rapid Express, and there is no other entertainment. The in-car announcements by Rakugo performers are constantly loud and not funny at all. What's more, the kids are yelling, which is distracting. In this day and age, with the development of media, it's important to entertain people with things other than their eyes (such as opening the windows so that they can enjoy the sea breeze), but this train just gives off a strong "Yes, we made the windows big, so you should be satisfied" vibe. And it's a shame that the cars used for this train were rare cars with opening windows, formerly JNR cars, but they were modified like Frankenstein's surgery, turning them into cars that are unbearable to look at. Spending money on trivial things is JR East's specialty, so I guess I'll just have to give up... But it would be a hundred million times better to take a regular train than the Shirakami. The train is always quiet, there are several local trains a day, so you can choose when to board, and best of all, you don't have to throw 840 yen down the drain.

After seeing Aoike Pond, I boarded the 1pm Resort Shirakami train from Juniko Station to Hirosaki.
The scenery along the coast was amazing.
The train stopped for 15 minutes at Senjojiki Station along the way, allowing me to enjoy a short stroll.
As we went inland, a Tsugaru shamisen player got on in the front car, and if there was a seat available I moved close to enjoy the performance.

観光客にとっては行こうと思わなければ乗ることが少ない路線かもしれないです。
でも、八郎潟や日本海の絶景を見ることが出来ます。
今回はリゾートしらかみに乗車し、その景観を堪能しました。途中の絶景シーンでは減速したり、停車時間を長くしてくれるなど、観光客目線に配慮してくれていて、嬉しく思いました。

「リゾートしらかみ」に往復乗車。乗車券と指定席券だけで優雅に移動できるのは魅力。ただ車内販売もなく、途中駅に売店も見当たらなかった点が残念に思った。

秋田から「リゾートしらかみ」に乗り、不老ふ死温泉で一泊、青森まで行った。
五能線は能代から五所川原までの区間、左側にほぼ日本海を見ながら北上する。能代では待ち時間にバスケットボールのスローインゲーム。途中の駅で列車の通過待ちをするもの単線ならではの風景。ビューポイントでは列車スピードをスローダウンして絶景を見せてくれる。津軽三味線ライブ演奏を聴きながら眺める日本海の荒波、五所川原近くで車窓左に見える雄大な岩木山も印象的だった。暖かい季節にもう一度、利用したい。

リゾートしらかみは想像通りで楽しめました。津軽三味線の生演奏は残念ながら聴けませんでしたがら秋田弁の語り聞きは面白かったです。千畳敷駅では停車時間も長く全員降りて写真を撮ったり堪能できました。日本海側をスレスレを走るスリル満点で撮り鉄さんでなくても楽しめましたよ。

五所川原駅から朝一番の弘前行きに乗車。車両は国鉄時代に製造された気動車(キハ40系列)。ローカル線にしては長い4両編成であるが乗客は結構多く、駅に着く度に高校生が乗り込んできて途中からはデッキ付近は立ち客でいっぱいになった。この後の列車は1時間後なので、それだと授業に間に合わないのであろう。五能線は観光路線と言われているが、地元に密着した別の一面を見ることができた。

Hi, we hope to travel on the Gono rail trip from Akita to Aomori on Saturday 4th of May 2019 but can't find a schedule. How many trains a day run on this line?

On the JR East website there is a timetable for the Joyful trains that shows there will be three a day in that direction on that route (although one only goes as far as Hirosaki so you would have to change there).
I know when I went in 2017, the timetables were only available on Hyperdia a couple of months before the autumn schedule began so I am assuming it will be the same for the spring.
