We passed Rügenhof on our way to Cape Arkona. Looking for a swift snack for the kids we went into the Café at the inner court of Rügenhof just passed the playground and behind the larger staple building with the indoor stands.
Primarily we were looking for some snack and a indoor place with children facilities (chair, toilet). Naturally being stressed getting some food into the small ones to avoid a meltdown, we stressed into the first best option, the infamous Café, just took a seat and ordered some kids friendly food ie wiener sausage with some bread bun.
The first red flag that we should have noticed right away (if we werent occupied with the kids) was the incredible unfriendliness we were met with. Just asking what is on the menu and even more so, god forbid, asking what might be suitable for kids was met with harsh attitude by the two women working there. ”The menu is on the board outside!” Ok, my fault. Next time I bring some paper and a pen.
Imagine the looks and snorting when I kindly asked whether one could pay by card and not cash or the absolute dismissive comments when just ordering food for the kids and not the entire family while still being so frank to occupy a table and the precious kid’s-chair (the Café was empty though...)
Asking for ketchup instead of mustard didn’t make things better... Nor did the request for cutlery.
After we finished, I collected the plates and cutlery and brought it to the personell/owners at the frontbar (not that I had to) to at least not start WWIII over leaving a mess.
Little did I know...
After leaving the Café with one of my kids on my arms, the other on my hand, the senior owner chased after me yelling how we could leave our seats in such a disarray and whether we had any manners at all.
Apparently one of the seat pillows fell down from the kid’s chair and there was half a bread bun laying under the table that the smallest one dropped. We refused to go back and clean up, which led the jarr-dropping yell spell continue right in front of other and potential new customers that met us with laughter and questions whether this place and its host are always so welcoming and customer friendly. Something we couldnt really confirm, which led the other owner to explode into pur face that we would antagonize other customers and should get out of here, else....
The yelling (now as a tag team) continued even when we were 50m away, then at the playground, trying to explain to our kids why there are angry women after us...
It is probably not necessary to point out that this was a major spoiler for sth that should have been a nice excursion to Rügen's most northern destination.
Stay away from this horrible location. Have a scone at the British place or eat a fish bun at the cottage next to the playground but by all means don’t step inside this hellhole.
By the way, the food wasn't good either and the (machine) coffee as mentioned by other visitors is hardly drinkable...

Wir hatten uns was anderes vorgestellt :(
