이 외에 아무것도 없는 말 그대로. 장기적으로 드라이브. 멋진 풍경, 멋진 것은 없었다. 하지만 여전히 멋진 장소를 방문할 수 있는 사진 말고.

제가 뉴질랜드 버킷리스트 넘버원. 좌회전 은 2 윔블던 및 고속도로를 향해 머리 porangahau (좋은 교회, 아깝지 방문). 전 그냥 porangahau 우회전을 하고 그 결과적으로 헛수고 tamatea 연주 그의 죽은 언덕이 동생 에서 더 4.2 km. 산은 보이지 않는, 하지만 도로 표지판 에 오 네. 도로 타르 화된형태의 으로, 다시 고속도로 2 단지 남쪽 dannevirke.

Definitely Worth the Detour

Exactly as expected, and worth it. A nice long name board. We recommend practising pronouncing the name in the car on the way. Watch out for mean truck drivers though - not all truck drivers are mean, but there were some mean ones.

Nice scenic view

If you only come here for the name board - don't come. If you come for the scenic view, go for it!
But coming here requires a detour from the main roads and gets you off the beaten track even better than the offical "off the beaten track" tours. It is a really nice areay, with a waterfall here and there, lovely little towns, and so on.
My visit is already a little while back (Feb 2014), but I cannot imagine it having changed a lot.

Long way for just a long name board!

Luckily I got talked out of cycling here, it would have been a lot of effort for little reward.
More fortunate for me was a visit to Porangahau Golf Course and so we were reasonably close to the longest place name.
I got my picture to say I’ve been. It is easier to get the picture off the internet to be honest but.....

Just take a smartphone.

Only about 5km or so from Porangahau village, this is a small car park that overlooks the hill with the name I’m not going to type. It’s worth it just to spend 10 minutes to read the sign giving the history, look at the hill and take a photo. It’s also cool that you can ‘check in’ here on Facebook.

So I can say I’ve visited the longest place name in the world! Yippee! There’s just not much else to do here so either bring a picnic or don’t plan to spend a whole day!

Visiting locations with long or odd place names has a kind of visceral appeal for me. Having visited LlanfairPG in Anglesey (Wales) it was only right to make the most of the opportunity now that I’m here in NZ. The local council could really do more with this place beyond the actual sign, but it is what it is and if you are in the vicinity, well why not?
