Such a shame, we were really looking forward to this class it looked great from the majority of the other reviews. However Tony didn’t turn up. Another couple had also booked on and we waited nearly 2 hours for Tony to come but he didn’t. It took him 3 hours to actually respond and say he did turn up but then left because he was unwell. It was all very strange and from reading some of these reviews we suspect that Tony wasn’t actually unwell as he has been a no show before. There are some other concerning reviews- allbeit a while ago. Thankfully we have been refunded.

This was the best cooking class with a great host, that included breakfast at local place near the market. The breakfast was really good and the service very fast. After the breakfast we returned to the market, where we had met the chef earlier that morning, to shop for the cooking class. Tony introduced to many vendors that's he's known for 2 decades. Tony's kitchen is very nice and well equipped for the class, great views of the mountains too. We started out by sanitizing the food to get rid of any potential bacteria. We had agua de jamaica which Tony had already prepared. We started by cutting fresh caught mahi maki aka dorado and squeezing limes for juice to cook the fish for ceviche. He provided us with detailed instructions all day. The most important part for us he taught us the history of Mexican food, techniques, and the Why behind what we prepared. We made 2 salsas, with Oaxacan native chiles, one green, one red both really yummy. A super refreshing salad with cucumber, jicama, avocado, tomato, a touch of red onion with a lime juice and olive oil dressing. For the main course we made chiles rellenos with tinga de pollo, shredded poached chicken with tomatoes, chipotle peppers and cabbage. Topped with Oaxacan string cheese aka quesillo and a locally made crema. Served in a heirloom tomato sauce. So damn good! We prepared black beans and a Mexican red rice that was so, so good. We had a nice refreshing finish with an ice or granita of jamaica. We also had ice cold Tecate and an excellent mezcal made from the tobala agave. We'll coming back next year to Puerto Escondido and look forward to another class, we told him we want to make the homestyle carnitas he told us about. Thanks so much again to Tony and his helper Ana.

Chef Tony was waiting for us in the market when we arrived early. We went to a local restaurant for breakfast, and Uriel already had a table waiting for our group. After breakfast, which was awesome and included in the fee, we went to some street vendors and then to the market. This was the most fun learning and cooking experience of our 1st trip to Puerto Escondido. We learned so much about Mexican cuisine that we never knew. We made some fantastic food, 8 different items. And we learned some tricks of the professional cooking trade. He lead us through each step and answered our questions with ease. What a deep knowledge of history Tony has, and he's able to explain and demonstrate everything in easy to understand ways. His hospitality was amazing, we felt like we were at home. He sent us all of the recipes and also the music list. We are grateful to him and his assistant Uriel. We will be returning to Puerto next year, we've already booked another class with him. If anyone is looking to dive deep and under the WHY behind what you do when preparing the food, he's the one to book a class with no question. We've taken other classes, but this is the first time we were taught WHY we were doing what we were doing when preparing and cooking all of the foods we did. And the best food in our 10 years of coming to Mexico, hands down. I speak for the entire group, we highly recommend Chef Tony's classes and tours.

Once again Tony surpassed our expectations. The experience was excellent and so was the food. We're looking forward to making the food back home as he sent us all of the recipes. Be sure to join one of the classes and market tours! We will be taking another class next year on our return visit.

This is the second time we took a class with Chef Tony. Once again it was a great experience. When we return next year for our annual trip to Puerto Escondido we look forward to another cooking class with Chef Tony.

DO NOT BOOK THIS GUY. HE IS A SCAM ARTIST.

We booked for a course. He never turned up. No comms of any description.

If you look back through some of the tripadvisor posts you will notice comments that he is a drunk and a sex pest.

You have been warned.

Our group took part in the market tour and cooking class. We had breakfast at a local restaurant. The breakfast was good, and we discussed the history of the foods in Mexico. There is a lot of food in Mexico today that came from around the world with all of the immigrants coming to Mexico. We returned to the market and shopped for the cooking class. We learned why we were preparing the ingredients the way we did. It was an eye opening experience and Tony the lead the way with confidence. He made it fun. We made a several dishes including ceviche, guacamole, a red and green salsa to start the class. The main course was a pumpkin seed sauce with shrimp. It was fun day and we learned so much. The food was the best we had during our trip. Many thanks to Tony and his assistant.

We did the salsa class and learned so much from Tony. We learned the history of the foods now in Mexico and how they came to Mexico with the Spanish ships coming from Manila to Acapulco. We had no idea about all of the influences from around the world in modern Mexican food. The food was fantastic, we had pork carnitas to go with the six salsas that we made in the class. Some of the salsas were mild like the pasilla, and the habanera was very picante. We're doing the market tour class on our next visit.

Excellent experience, highly recommended! Very knowledgeable guide, incredible variety and quantity of food items, mostly unfamiliar. A great way to pass a few hours and learn a lot!

My partner and I booked ourselves in for the salsa making class, which takes place at the instructor's house. When we arrived, it was evident right off the bat that the instructor, Tony, was incredibly drunk. He didn't ask us any questions, tell us anything about what we were going to do, or how to proceed. He simply started grilling peppers over the stovetop, continually dropping them as he was so drunk. He was unable to instruct us on anything or answer any questions about what was happening, and his young assistant had to apologise for his behaviour and continually correct him as he attempted to make the salsas. We didn't get through making a single one before he (thankfully) announced that he was unable to continue and was cancelling the class.

It was an incredibly uncomfortable experience, which I would not recommend to anyone.
