Not worth your money. The studio’s architecture is nice but the museum does not honour Canada’s musical talents deeply enough. The band Rush is very important for musical rock n roll history and its drummer Neil Peart is the best drummer ever. The museum should have dedicated an entire ROOM to Rush, playing their music repeatedly in that room. Same goes for Neil Young and Tragically Hip, Nelly Furtado. The museum should have also done something about Indie artists such as Sloan, Sam Roberts, Me Mom and Morgantoller, Bran Van 3000! God Speed You, where was Drake? Oh my where is Drake and Our Lady Peace? Hiding somewhere in the walls. Disgusting. Instead there was an entire room dedicated to the cheesy pseudo rock band Sum 41, whose singer was unfortunately abused by a record manager. Also a corner dedicated to KD Lang? Why? Why not Tom Cochran, Bryan Adam’s, Moist? I don’t know who they consulted for this but it seems like their curators/advisors don’t know much about Canadian music. I want my money back!

Great to discover Canada’s musical heritage!
The “reception” staff was far from welcoming but it was the only downside to the visit, I learned a lot about Canadian artists and there are exhibitions that are definitely worth a visit like the one on the Kimball organ.

This was super interesting and informative. I love the various exhibits and learned so much about Canadian music history. I really enjoyed the rooms with the instruments to play.

A stunning building and great spot to spend a couple hours. I tool my Mom (biggest Beatle fan) and sister and we had a pleasant time wandering the floors and looking at the displays.
The Beatles exhibit is a bit underwhelming, but we enjoyed it nonetheless.
I always love to see the fashion and enjoyed the K.D Lang portion of the exhibits.
There is a little sweet cafe, a small gift shop area and it wasn't busy - even on a Sunday....it felt like we had the place to ourselves, which we loved.

I stopped and visited the museum when visiting Calgary. The museum is okay but the exhibit is a little lacking. For instance, the largest exhibit is on The Beatles, certainly not a Candian Band. I expected more of my favorite Band Rush but just a few plaque that they were in the Canadian Music and Songwriters Hall of Fame, a mention they were named Canda's music ambassadors and one of Neil Pearts drum kits. Some things are interesting but could use some more exhibits.

The museum has a nice selection of information about Canadian music history, as well as a large collection of instruments and vintage equipment. The best part (in my opinion) was the live band (Rock the Nation) that played snippets of songs from impactful Canadian artists, which made the visit fun and enjoyable. Well worth the visit and ticket price!

The Violins of Hope exhibit is a must see. This beautifully curated gathering is both inspiring and horrific. We were lucky to have the curator speak to us and the stories of putting on this exhibit and the discovery of new information that will be added to this travelling show is fascinating as well as a true labour of love.
My heart is full and I love the testimony to survival and the power of music that this display embodies.

Went on family day with our 2 kids, we were all excited for the acoustic experience and getting to interact with instruments, how disappointed we were. Each exhibition room was a plain space with mostly visual information (and not greatly displayed), not great for a music center. The audio experiences are mostly limited to "put some headphones on", we could get more interesting and exciting information on youtube. There was a couple of instruments you could touch and interact with but not worth the hype. The organ demonstration was fun, but that's about it. Overall, it feels like a 1980s exhibits in a warehouse with a lot of small rooms, I'm not sure why such a big pretentious building for such a poor audio experience.

Was a return visit and it holds up as my favorite music museum. International superstars are interspersed with Canadian stars this American isn’t familiar with. Very interactive; I could have spent all day learning guitar from Randy Bachmann video and playing with other instruments. Nice performance space for shows. A real gem

This is an amazing museum, not just an amazing Calgary museum. Studio Bell is one of the best designed and most interactive museums I have been to anywhere, Canada or otherwise. And it isn't just about Canadian music history. There are tons of hands-on exhibits that teach you about the science and history of musical instruments. The placards are easy to read and understand and the exhibits are designed to appeal to all ages from kids to senior citizens, music aficionados to the average person who listens to the radio once in a while. I will definitely be back and put studio Bell on my list of Calgary to-dos for friends and family who come to visit.

Hi Nancy,
Tours are about an hour long. Wednesday-Friday they run at 11:00am and 2:00pm and on Saturday-Sunday we add an additional tour at 12:30pm. Hope to see you soon!

Hello Ray,
We are open 7 days a week from May 16th to September 3rd from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm.
After September we are closed Monday and Tuesday. The hours of operation are Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00am until 5:00pm. Tours are included with admission and are held at 11:00am and 2:00pm daily.
