A very simple church. It is in good condition given how old it is and how it has had to withstand harsh weather.Be sure to go inside to see the church. There is a small library in the very back with books they used during peak whaling times.

This simple church is really beautiful, but it also a major contradiction. Set in amazing scenery with beautiful mountains and glaciers all around, this church served as religious center for a group of people hunting and killing God's creatures. Strange to see religion normalizing what we view today as horribly barbaric. Obviously a part of their culture (from which Norway has thankfully moved on), taken by itself the church is elegantly simple and obviously served as a cultural center for this population (including the extensive library in the rear of the church). The church is well maintained and still in active use for special services. Definitely worth the visit.

Monday to Friday kill whales and on Sunday go and visit the church. St least the guy who set the whole thing up tried to be nice to his employees in a way he thought to be the best. A church that would get totally unnoticed if at another place

Die renovierte sehr schöne Kirche war bei unserer Antarktisreise mit Hurtigruten der sehr schöne Raum für unsere Weihnachtspredigt im Dezember, gehalten vom Kapitän des Schiffes und mit Musik von Teilen der Besatzung. Ein Gottesdienst für alle Passagiere, egal von wo und welcher Glaubensrichtung, auch ein paar Inder waren dabei. Sehr stilvoll und unvergesslich!

My wife and I recently visited this church while cruising South Georgia island. Although the whaling station seldom used the church for religious purposes, it also served as the station’s library. Many of the original books are still present in the back room. A recently added Shackleton bust is also on display. Worth a visit.

The church has been repaired and repainted and looks like it was built yesterday. Inside is also immaculate but you can see that it is quite old. There are various plaques on the wall commemorating visiting ships and at end of the building by the altar there is a library holding hundreds of old books, their age showing with blown bindings.

This Norwegian Lutheran Church is the south-most church in the world. It locates in Grytviken near to the defunct whaling station and also famous among tourists because Sir Shackleton was buried nearby. There are stories behind the church and the whaling station. Grytviken has been chosen as one of the landing sight for our Antarctica Expedition Cruise ship and we were lucky to visit this place on 7 Jan morning after snowing throughout the night before. The snow-covered mountains had added beauty to the quiet environment and all our cruisemates rushed to take photos around within the limited time allowed on land. Highly recommended.

This church is in a very scenic position at Grytviken. Well kept and worth a few minutes if you visit Grytviken. They let you ring the bells.

This historic church is nice for photography, both inside and out. Great backdrops with a sheer mountain on one side and snow-capped peaks on another.

Two of our tour group, Joanne and Adam, got married in this Church 1 December 2017. So exciting!! It was all pre-arranged and kept 'hush-hush' till the day we visited Grytviken. The tour group and accompanying crew were witnesses and guests to the event. A memorable experience indeed.
