We have wanted to visit Cae’r Gors for some time and were very pleased to see it listed as part of the OpenDoors scheme for Sunday 23rd September. We were very disappointed to find the place closed with no sign of life whatsoever and no notices or signs to indicate if and when the place was to be opened. No information at all on the website either. What a shame!

This is a fantastic little place of the Welsh author, Kate Roberts. There's a DVD that you can watch first of all and then there is a small exhibition, where the cattle shed used to be. The house has be reconstructed by CADW and decorated for the time Kate Roberts would have lived there. It is certainly has a great setting where you can see the Menai Strait and if you look carefully you can see Caernarfon Castle majestically sitting on the corner of Caernarfon. Definitely worth a visit, but do check the website as they are only open a few days a week

Learn about one of the great writers of Wales

This small museum gave us an excellent insight into the life of Kate Roberts. Very helpful staff shared their local knowledge and enthused us to find out more about this influential woman. Seeing her former home gave an idea of a long gone way of life. The video presentation in Welsh or English was informative and interesting.

Childhood home of Kate Roberts

This is a heritage centre for the famous Welsh author Kate Roberts which was her childhood home. Even if you have never heard of Kate Roberts this is worth a visit as it is an example of a quarrymans house/smallholding from the 18th Century. This is a typical house in Snowdonia from that period and there are exhibits here to explain the area as it was when the slate industry was active. An interesting place for any tourist.

Small museum in the village of Rhosgadfan. The home of Kate Roberts, local author. Remake of the house how it would have been in her years there. Very pleasant staff that make a nice cup of tea. Not expensive but off the beaten track, we found it by accident on a walk.
