When out for our morning walk while enjoying our stay in Tralee we came across the Rose Garden Town Park. We stopped to take photos of the Rose of Tralee statue. Read the boards with the names/ cities of the young ladies who entered the competition from all over the world. Much to our surprise we discovered our friend’s daughter was an entry in 1989! A very nice surprise to see Tara’s name listed! The rose garden was gorgeous and many varieties of roses as well as memorial statues and plaques.

Could have made more of this. A very stiff and uninspiring portrayal given the romance of the subject. Even include the lyrics of the song

Set in a lovely rose garden, it was great to walk through and enjoy the beautiful garden and sweet sculpture. Near city center it’s a couple of blocks to restaurants, cafe, pubs and stores. Enjoyed it on a day of good weather.

This is a beautiful monument celebrating the Roses down the years. A very fitting tribute. Would have loved to see the roses in bloom. Maybe I will come back when they are in full bloom next year!!

The statues are not especially interesting but around them are displays with the names of all the entrants in the Rose of Tralee competition - from all over the world, wherever there is an Irish presence. We really did not expect Abu Dhabi to be included.

This is a must see if you are in Tralee, there are panes of glass with every past Rose from their respective cities/counties there. So an amazing way to glance back into history. Beautiful spot when the weather is good.
