We had made an appointment prior to our trip to Varenna. We loved all Paul's paintings but chose one of a Varenna lake scene which we will treasure for years to come. Paul and Melita were gracious during our time in the art gallery and the customer service we received as the painting was being shipped was impeccable.

Thank you, Larry! How kind of you to write such complimentary words about our service. We do "aim to please" whenever we can. But I must say that it was incredibly easy with you and Lartrell. It is not everyday that clients make such an effort to come to our gallery from Switzerland...and for just a few hours! Wow! That story is one for the record books for us. We so enjoyed working with you during the previous months to make the arrangements and then to meeting you both (and your very lovely friends) that day. We now hope that gazing upon your Varenna scene will tempt you to return to our charming medieval village...and when you can stay and linger a bit longer! We actually saw a painting we loved in the window on a day the gallery was closed. We called to see if we could work out a time to meet. Paul came over immediately and opened the store. The painting was shipped and is fabulous. Arrived quickly and the process was easy. Thank you to Paul and his wife Melisa (who handled the shipping.)

My girlfriend and I stumbled the gallery on a day trip to Varenna during our vacation on Lake Como. We happened to arrive just as Melita was opening the shop for the evening. We had a great time over the next couple hours drinking prosecco, listening to music and talking not just about the art, but about the town, the region, and day-to-day life. We were drawn to one painting in particular, a beautiful, deep and richly-colored forest scene that reminded us of our hike in the Val Sanagra park the day prior. We purchased the painting and shortly after we arrived home the following week, it had arrived without any issue. Our visit to Paulo's gallery was one of the highlights of our trip, and it is wonderful to have a reminder that we can appreciate every day. Much of Paulo's art in the gallery depicts scenes around lake, a captivating expression of one of the most beautiful places in the world.

My husband and I purchased a beautiful painting from Paul Demaria Guaitamacchi's Studio this spring. Not only do we love the beauty of the painting and the way it warmly beckons us back to Varenna every time we look at it, but the transaction was also incredibly easy and seamless from a buyer's perspective. They shipped the painting to us quickly. In fact, we had our beautiful painting hanging on our wall just a week after we returned home.

On our trip to Varenna we intended to find a piece of art, but ended up falling in love with two of Paolo’s paintings. Melita made the buying and shipping experience so easy, and we loved meeting both of them! Could not recommend them enough!
I have no doubt that we will be buying more of Paolo’s work in the future, we feel lucky to have his paintings in our home.

Thank you, Nicole! What a lovely message and what great photos. You and Ryan definitely chose well. Those are two of my favorite scenes of Paolo's. The Venice night scene is just stunning. And the Lake Como scene includes the church where Paolo and I were married, so a little sentimental value there. My husband and I went on a month long summer vacation to Italy. During the planning we already knew we wanted to come back with a piece of art from our trip.
I did my research on art galleries across all the towns we were visiting from Varenna to Positano and the raving reviews of Paolo’s gallery caught my eye and put it on our list of must visits during our stay in Varenna.
When we arrived at the gallery it was closed but we took a peak from the outside and liked what we saw so I called the number on the door and Melita answered the phone. She was so kind and agreed to meet us that afternoon.
We ended up having a delightful afternoon with Melita, looking through Paolo’s work while drinking Prosecco of course and agreed to commission a painting.
This week we received our painting and it’s even more beautiful than we would have expected. The entire process was smooth with lots of communication and we couldn’t be more grateful to have an original Paolo’s piece of art in our home to remind us of beautiful Varenna every day.

I can't tell you how flattered Paolo and I are to know that when you and Anthony were seeking out a special piece of artwork for your recent trip to Italy, your research led you to us. We read rave reviews about this fantastic small art studio in the beautiful little village of Varenna, Italy. The Studio lived up to its hype and we spent a couple of hours talking to Melita, who runs the shop for her husband Paolo. We commissioned a painting, 1st time ever, and we're thrilled with the process and the ease of shipment of our painting, which we love!!!
We plan on a return visit the last week of August 2024 and hope to add a small original painting to our collection.

My husband & I stumbled upon this studio full of exquisite paintings, many depicting the breathtaking scenery of Lake Como and its surrounding towns. We love taking home original art that will remind us of our travels. So we commissioned a painting from Paolo Demaria Guaitamacchi, aided by his lovely wife Melita. A few months later our masterpiece arrived. It is hanging prominently in our Texas home, a daily reminder of cooler temps and slower paces just waiting for us in Varenna. He even included our hotel, the Hotel Olivedo. Melita was a joy to work with, and she was an excellent hostess while we poured through painting samples to find the combination that spoke to us.

Two years ago (2021) we visited lake Como and came across this nice small gallery in Varenna. It was closed but through the door we saw a beautiful painting of Varenna. For over 1,5 years it kept lingering in our minds and just before our wedding and moving to our new house we contacted the gallery. We wanted to have a beautiful painting like the one we saw in 2021 for our new house. The one we saw was already sold and we did not know what to expect.
The email I received back from Melita was amazing. She suggested a commissioned painting, painted especially for us. Similar to the one we saw but an original one-of-a-kind painting.
We decided to ask al our friends and family to make it a special wedding gift and in October this year (2023) we went to Como to personally collect our painting and meet the persons behind the painting. The gallery is owned by Melita a wonderful energetic woman who is very friendly and helpful. The painting was made by Paulo a true artist who knows his trade. Together with a glass (or two) of prosecco we set eyes on our new painting and talked all afternoon with both Melita and Paulo. It was a wonderful experience to meet such nice people and have such a special and beautiful painting specially painted for us.
After wrapping it securely we took the painting home, where it its now proudly hanging in our living room where it will be a token for our love to each other and our combined love for lake Como.
Melita and Paulo we would like to thank you again for this nice contact of the last half year, the wonderful experience of meeting you both in the open lake gallery and last but not least the amazing painting.
If you ever find yourself in Varenna enjoying lake Como, and you want to have a something other than a picture to remember that beautiful Italian landscape then visit the gallery and see if Paulo has painted something that you can fall in love with like we did with our ‘Varenna, tardo pomeriggio estivo’.

Wow, wow, WOW, Sander and Lisette! What a wonderful review you have given Paolo and I here! Thank you so much!! It is so fun to read it and remember all the passages from when you first peeked through the window of the gallery and saw the original painting of Varenna that attracted you, to the day, two years later (when we finally were able to meet you) when you were sitting in the gallery with Paolo and I, sipping prosecco and gazing upon the commissioned painting of that same scene that Paolo was able to paint for you in honor of your marriage.
And what a delightful couple you are! Really, it was such an honor for Paolo and I to work with you both. And so clever of you to suggest to your wedding guests that they contribute towards the purchase of the painting as their wedding gift to you! I have now started suggesting that to other couples. Great idea.
But most importantly, we are so pleased that you like what Paolo has painted for you. It is remarkably similar to the original and a bright and colorful reminder of the sunny, summer days we experience in Varenna. We now hope that looking at the painting each day (in it's "pride of place" in your home) will tempt you to return to us and our charming medieval Varenna soon.

Paul and Melita, I am curious as to a rough price range on a landscape painting?
I live in the United States and go on trips every summer with a friend if mine. This year we are going to be spending it traveling Italy. Every trip I love to friend a nice piece of art as a memory of the trip to bring home. However I am young and unexperienced about shipping international. After reading so many amazing reviews on your studio i am very excited to try to visit during our trip in May. But sadly as I said, I am young, and while planning to buy as nice of a painting as I can on the trip. I do not have all money I would love to spend on a painting.
So I was curious what one roughly ran for in your studio? If there us a general range that would be amazing to know. Thank you so much for taking to time to read this and respond.

Hello from Melita (Paolo’s American wife from Chicago).
Thank you so much for contacting us and for your question about our prices for Paolo’s oil paintings. In general, I would say the range is from 800 euro (approx. $1000) for a small a scene (10 x 12 in.) up to 2400 euro (approx. $3000) for a large scene (24 x 48 in.). Our prices include the frames (hand-treated from Florence), taxes/fees and international shipping.
We also sell one limited-edition print that is a scene of Varenna. We do not market this on our website and offer it more as a courtesy for our walk-in clients to the gallery. It is a reproduction of an original oil painting that Paolo embellishes with oils and it is sold “unstretched” and “unframed” and shipped rolled in a tube. The print cost is 250 euro + 25 euro (for shipping) for a total of 275 euro (approx. $340 US). If you provide me with an email, I can always send you an image of the current scene we have available.
No matter what, I hope that you and your friend are able to make it to Varenna in May. It is a most delightful and charming village (especially at that time of year) and our gallery is located just off the main St. Giorgio church piazza. We welcome visitors and are generally open in the afternoon and evenings (and mornings by appointment). But if we know when you’re coming, we’ll be sure to be there!

Hello. Thank you for your questions.
Yes, we have "wheels" (as in two cars) and with some advance planning we could potentially collect and return people to their hotels/vacation rentals on and around the center of Lake Como. This service would be free of charge, of course, with any painting purchase (along with complimentary wine and snacks...and shipping with FedEx).
As for the amount of time to plan to spend in our gallery, that would depend on the level of interest in viewing the 35-40 paintings on display in any given moment. Someone could easily enter the gallery and enjoy a quick look of all of the paintings in 5-10 minutes. However, to fully experience a more serious viewing of the paintings in the many types of lighting (natural light versus intense spot lighting), and to enjoy a glass of wine (or two?) and to finalize a painting purchase, it would be best to allow for at least an hour (if not two). Oddly enough, this makes the gallery a great "rainy day" destination.
The majority of the available paintings are always displayed on our website (and marked with a "green dot"). This allows clients to first view them privately on their own and then come to the gallery to see them "up close and personal".
One last comment would be about our client's privacy. It is important to us. Because of this, we are pleased to offer "private viewings" according or our client's schedule, as well.
