We brought along our 15, 13 and 9 year olds. The day was not too long and was very interesting for them. We were glad that we did not book the Last Post tour as well, as that would have been too much for our kids. Not too much information, just too long of a day on top of a trip back to Bruges

Sorry missed this earlier but if you still want to know on the tour we did he has a minibus to take you around he guides and drives. I can't exactly recall how big but our tour had about 8 on it and there was probably room for 2 more. I suspect if you were booking a bigger party then he could get a bigger bus but the vehicle he has is ideal for the lanes that you end up driving up and down to access some of the places.

Hello Margaret I was in Bruges in September and I did the most amazing day tour with Nathan who owns Flanders Fields Battlefield Day Tours (which includes Ypres and Paschendale). I cannot recommend this highly enough! Nathan is extremely knowledgeable and tells the poignant story of the battles and the fallen with passion and compassion. He takes a maximum of 8 people which is a huge plus. If there is a particular grave you would like to visit, he will help you to locate it. I did the day tour and then stayed on in Ypres to watch the Last Post at the Menin Gate (this was optional: it is possible to do one or the other). This for me was the perfect end to an incredibly emotional, unforgettable day. Nathan will fetch you from where you are staying and drop you back afterwards, which was another plus. For me, doing this tour with an operator was the only way! There is a fair amount of driving to do, and a lot of Nathan's commentary takes place during the trip. Hi Elaine I would strongly suggest going with Nathan (Flanders Field Battlefield Day Tours) who does comprehensive and fascinating tours with a maximum of 8 people. I went on his tour recently and there were 4 people wanting to visit a relative's grave, and another couple who wanted to do the same. Together with Nathan's knowledge and the info they gave him he found the graves. He did this with great sensitivity and respect which meant that he did not share their information with the rest of the group or ask about their emotions etc. I thought this was most professional. It depends on the experience you want, but if you would like to know about the conditions in which your great uncle fought, and what he and his fellow soldiers experienced, I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Nathan also offers the Last Post at the Menin Gate which for me was the perfect ending for what had been a very emotional day. It was heart-warming to see that a century later thousands gather every evening to remember the fallen. I hope you have a wonderful trip.

I'd seriously think twice about booking with Nathan. From his trip advisor reviews he is clearly an excellent guide - which is why I booked him. However, he let us down on the morning of our tour, by email, my family were left stranded in the street having already checked out of our B&B on the last day. He works alone so there was no one to step in. We desperately phoned round trying to get onto another tour but it was too late, he was known to everyone we spoke to as a great guide but 'having issues' the details of which I don't think I should share on here. I told Nathan how let down I felt and he told me he had ongoing health problems. We ended up getting a taxi, which was expensive and without a guide. I'd always book with a bigger company in future.
