A pleasant discovery, returning from Kefalos towards Kos town we made this detour and it was amazing to find ourselves all of a sudden in such a cool place and full of peacocks and cats.

As a frequent guest to the stunning island of Kos we often go to the forest to see the cats and peacocks A local charity have supported these a Naz animals for years Imagine my utter disappointment disbelief and horror to discover the cats are gone not a peaceful or pleasant story I am sad to say but killed brutally with a pellet gun My words are written as I cry for the cats and the wonderful people who dedicated thee life every day taking care of these innocent animals now the plot thickens in Greece it is illegal to harm an animal so I ask the question why no arrest why no public story this is a crime and the truth should be told
Kos is amazing but whoever did this you should be in jail

A great spot to chill when there’s no wind on the island and you need some outdoor space to cool off. It's about 5 degrees cooler than out in the open. Plus, there are some peacocks around too!

A forest in the mountains with walks. They have peacocks running wild. A man sells bread to feed them. They are tame, and it's lots of fun feeding them. There are a few cats around which like attention too. You only need about two hours to look around so a short stop. It would have been helpful to have some sort of map erected that showed circular walks in the area. Well worth a visit.

In the middle of the aridity of the island stands this very relaxing coniferous forest. Full of cute peacocks, bring something to feed them, they won't leave you alone anymore

We stopped in the Plaka Forest on the way to Kefalos. At that time, on a Sunday, around 10:00 a.m., it wasn't crowded yet and you could take great photos. When we drove back after about 45 minutes, it was already busier.
The peacocks were beautiful to look at and weren't really afraid of people. Otherwise there's nothing else there. No café and no toilets. But that would just spoil the beautiful picture in nature.

Amazing pine forest with peacocks, each of which is outfitted with a tiny blue Spartan helmet, in addition to their natural plumage, for added special effect. There are also ducks, and babies, and baby ducks. When you feed the ducks bread, unlike people, they show their appreciation by wagging their tail feathers for the approximate duration it takes to swallow a piece of bread. If you go, bring berries.

Does anyone know if excursions or day trips are run here from the hotels or if we need to get a bus?

Almost certain that this is not on any excursions or trips simply because the access roads are not suitable. You have even to be careful in a car as the roads are so rough and uneven !

Since going last May, I hear conflicting rumours about how donations are being used. Some say the cats are not being neutered to ensure an endless supply of kittens which tourists will love and carry on donating money in effort to help. There are rescue centres that need help. ARK (Animal Rescue Kos) and GASAH (Greek and Swedish Animal Help). These two take animals to vets to be sterilised and so reduce the number of strays and homeless animals.
