Decided to go to watch the sunrise. I left very early from Svoronata (4.15) which gave plenty of time for driving in the dark. The road is fine providing you aren’t nervous. Once you’ve turned off the road for the final ascent then keep going and follow the snow poles; ignore any turn offs. At the top I wasted a lot of time in the dark trying to locate the right path. Head east down the gravel track opposite the radio masts. The track heads downhill which was counter intuitive, just keep walking for 10-15 mins at a brisk pace. The track levels out and swings sharply right and immediately there the path up is obvious. The steps are fine; it’s 5 mins to the top and trainers would be suitable footwear.

Aenos National Park is a vast and stunning nature reserve perfect for avid hikers. The park offers extensive trails, and while the warm temperatures can make hiking challenging, the effort is well worth it. Reaching the highest point of the park provides breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Keep an eye out for goats grazing on the slopes—they add a touch of wildlife charm to the experience.
One thing to note is that there are some large bugs on the mountain, which can be a bit bothersome but are part of the natural environment. On the plus side, there’s convenient parking close to the top, making it easier to access the best viewpoints.

Park the car near the top, then walked the rest. Not an easy walk (lot of loose stone and steep. Views worth it! Highly recommended for the physically fit.

We were looking forward to heading up to the national park and summit but it wasn’t quite the experience we’d hoped for. On a positive, the road was fine (I’d seen bad reviews of this.) Maybe not one for nervous drivers but it’s nothing like some of the horror stories. Ensure you take the main road from Argostoli or Sami and it’s fine. Parking was easy (we went early evening.) The steps up to the summit were really difficult - take the other way round even though it says it’s longer. I hadn’t seen anywhere mention this on reviews and I actually stopped half way up. The teenagers carried on and got to a summit but the wrong one 😄 Then…. The flies. Literally swarmed the whole time we were there and plenty of bites to show for it afterwards. They just kept coming, to the point that some people were parking up, starting the walk and coming straight back to the car. Maybe this was the heatwave? The time of day? No idea but it wasn’t pleasant. I’ve never seen them persist like that. The views are stunning and I’d probably still do it again for them to be fair but it’s not as easy as you tube videos make it look and you literally need a net around your whole body 😀

The road through the valley before reaching the mountain is beautiful with plenty of traditional villages to stop and eat. The main tarmac road to the mountain is very good (better than the Cornish twisty roads where I live). Views from the top are incredible, we were above the cloud line looking down at Zante. Take plenty to drink with you

Absolutely fantastic place to visit. The drive up was stunning and there was barely any traffic. There are a few dead ends on the route. A large sign in Greek doesn’t really give you any clues so stay left when you see this as going right takes you to a building with locked gates and then you have to reverse back or make a precarious u-turn. Carry on up to the gate and signposts, follow the road to a fork, take right lane, passing a picnic area and parking, you can park here or carry on up to the top where you just park on the road near the masts. Walk in the opposite direction from the masts and you’ll find a gravel path that takes you to various viewpoints. Someone has kindly marked the path with red paint so you know you’re on the right track. The gravel can be a bit slippery so wear good hiking shoes and the steps up to the highest point aren’t for the unfit but hand rails in parts and logs for steps help. I found coming back down a little scary but just take your time. The views are well worth it and you might even see some mountain goats. Take lots of water and bug spray as the mozzies loved the picnic area.

Mount Ainos is set in southeastern part of Kefalonia, convenient to visit if driving Skala - Argostoli road or vv. There's a signpost to turn from the main road, and a pretty good road leads you up for around 20 min drive.
End of road is at the peak where're the huge antennas. From here you can proceed on foot to the summit which we didn't do in scorching July heat wave.
We were satisfied with the views from here - you can see Argostoli, complete southern coast and Zante island across.

I decided to go up very early to try to catch the sunrise. I missed it by about 20 mins which was a shame but overall it was still an amazing experience. Definitely worth it if you can get yourself out of bed.

We were disappointed we drove all the way up the 15k drive up the mountain side to the national park to find out it was closed due to fire fisk. Which we could understand about the fire risk. But why didn't they close the road that led up the 15k drive. So we went up and then had to come all the way back down 30ks worth of time and fuel wasted.

Turn off Argostoli/Samoa’s road s/posted Aenos national park follow GOOD asphalt road for about 8 miles ,rising along Forest ridge. Park at end( just below transmitter station) walk along track (away from station) for about 400m to viewpoint over Livathos.

Any ideas how to get to mount ainos from Sami? I can drive but I'm not old enough to rent a car in greece and my girlfriend can't drive :(.

We drove up to 1000m Which would be a challenging walk/ cycle. From there you can usually drive up a little further and finally walk the rest

The road up to the top radio mast is well metalled and good for even small hire cars. Park by there or lower down by the park entrance (which is pretty high up) and walk the rest. Do not even think about the gravel bits.

wie weit ist denn von Parkplatz bist zum Gipfel? wie sieht es denn mit den Höhenmetern aus? Ist der weg auch für untrainierte Wanderer zu bewältigen?

Hi! If you park next to the pylons, the walk to the start of the summit is about 15 mins (add twenty for photo taking though as it's just so beautiful), then once you make the climb up the forest steps, it's around another 15-20 depending on how fit you are. I have to stop a few times! Then, once you break free of the trees and see the rocky scree, take a right and it's five minutes of scrabbling to the actual summit where the sign and register are. It's absolutely stunning.

I think it's only main car routes that go up to the mountain. On the mountain itself you have a large walking trail.

Hi, it is not far at all to walk from the car to the stunning viewpoint on the top. Parc the car and walk about 5 minutes. You can also stop on the way up or down and have a rest in the parc. Follow the sign on the way. For those who wish to walk in the parc there are plenty pathes to choose between, which will of course take time.
I recommend you to get to the top in order to see the island from the top. Bring comfortable shoes and a sweater cause it might be chilly on the top.
