A kind welcome

The rector was about to close the church but he very kindly not only gave us an extra ten minutes to come in and take a look around but he told us the history of the area, using the stained glass window to explain the story (a sad but ultimately very inspiring tale).

Really appreciated his kindness, this is a special place and clearly a close-knit community.

nice church

we stopped off at this village church on a coach trip we had heard about the villages history before we had visited about so many people dying and nearly all the village died of plague all because of some matral deliveryed to the tailor who opened the package and released the plague killing familys there is a list inside the church of the people who died the church the church smells very damp when you go in it is vry nicndows inside the church the alter and the sained glass wid

Terrific history

If you have no idea what happened in Eyam in 1665 then the display in the parish church will fill the void. Aside from that, it's a beautiful parish church.

Place of historic worship

Covid secure measures in place. Small shop. Loved the newish stained glass window that tells the story visually. Display boards inform visitor. Rather damp but interesting church and grave yard.

Beautiful old church

This is a great place to start your visit to Eyam. The church is beautiful inside and out. You can get the history of the village inside and there is a beautiful book recording the date and name of every person who died during the plague. The church is at the centre of the village and you can not miss it.

A great place to start your tour

A lovely, well kept church in the heart of the village, which is very informative. Within the grounds are a several of the must see points of interest of the village. A map of the village can be purchased from inside the church so that you can ensure you don't miss out on any of the 'attractions'.
A very humbling and sad tale from history.

A key part of village history

Next door to the main plague cottages, it's the hub of the plague activity a it was the Rector - Mompesson, who played a key role in keeping villagers safe. There are display boards containing a history of the church and a window dedicated to the plague. There are also wall paintings, and a chair from Mompessons time. In the graveyard is the tomb of Mompesson's wife, Catherine, another gravestone with a skull and crossbones, a cricketer's grave, Celtic cross and an C18th wall sundial, so plenty to see.
