Erice is a great place to shop. There are numerous pottery studios and shops, good souvenir shops, wonderful bakeries and candy shops, as well a coffee shops where you can grab a coffee and pastry to break the pace of your shopping spree.This was one of the best places to shop in this neck of the woods.

We wilden eerst vanuit Trapani de kabellift nemen. Maar doordat er teveel wind stond, werkte die niet. Dan maar met de huurauto via de weg ... bocht na bocht werd het uitzicht mooier.
De bestuurder kan echter niet kijken. Die houdt beter zijn ogen op de weg!
Erice is klein, maar zeker de moeite. Mooie kerken, smalle straatjes, mooie terrasjes.
Als je in deze streek van Sicilië verblijft is het één van de aanraders om te bezichtigen.

Evitate di andarci nelle ore di punta quando interi pullman vengono svuotati nelle sue viuzze.
Andateci verso il tardo pomeriggio e vi perderete fuori dal tempo e dallo spazio.
Normanni,fenici, greci,francesi hanno segnato la topografia del borgo.
Tra le cose più belle i panorami sul Cornino e verso il tramonto i colori delle saline....saline enon risaie come ho sentito dire dal turista percaso di turno.
Il duomo dalla meravigliosa facciata,i cortili arabeggianti, il delizioso balconcino barocco davanti alla pasticceria delle monache.....che nostalgia.

Erice a walled town medieval city, high up in the mountains close to Trapani , is worthwhile the trip.
Driving to the top gives you spectacular views of the bay and at the end you will arrive at a parking lot for your car.
The streets are narrow, curved and have a beautiful pattern of composed cobble stones. You have the impression of walking around in a medieval city, very clean and charming, and therefor an atypical Sicilian city. A lot of churches to be visited and views to be taken up.

Zeker de moeite om 1 dag voor uit te trekken .

Met de kabellift naar Erice. Wat een prachtig dorpje hoog op de berg. Oneindig veel en mooie vergezichten, je raakt maar niet uitgekeken. Het pittoreske dorpje en de vriendelijke mensen zorgen ervoor dat je je er snel thuis voelt. De groene omgeving brengt rust. Zeker de moeite waard voor minstens een halve dag, maar beter een ganse dag ervoor uittrekken. En vergeet je fototoestel niet!!!

Ero stato qui in funivia nel lontano 1° novembre 1967 quando ero militare a Trapani e mi rammaricavo di non averlo visitato come meritava, perciò appena ho potuto sono tornato in comitiva, stavolta col bus e con la guida che ci ha illustrato la bellissima Chiesa, il Castello e i vari scorci panoramici, abbiamo anche assaggiato i prelibati dolci in una rinomata pasticceria.

With regret I was underwhelmed with Erice. Although a very historical town I had expected it to be somewhat more pleasing on the eye. The biggest turn off was the huge amount of tourists (myself included) and rather than be able to walk and observe the history, you were watching were you were so as not to bump into people. With the streets being medieval the cobbles were also an obstacle to watch were you were putting your feet or you could have an accident. The lanes were steep walks and not suitable for wheelchair users. The shops which I had hoped would be interesting and quaint were actually a huge rip off ........ 8 mini marzipan fruits on tray 12 euro !!!!!! I would not recommend unless you were actually staying close by in Trapani, but would see little point making a long trip to visit.

Antico borgo che gode di posizione privilegiata, regala una vista amplissima e stupefacente. Di origini medievali, conserva chiese e monumenti degni di nota. Bellissimo il Castello di Venere, il Duomo, le Mura ciclopiche, i giardini della Villa comunale. Graziosi scorci e pittoreschi negozietti che vendono le rinomate ceramiche e i famosi tappeti. Andateci in funivia e poi girate a piedi, lo consiglio.
