We ran into a guy who said that he had seen so many Italian churches that he doubted if he could continue. But then he went on to say that this one was one that we could not miss. So we climbed a lot of steps and visited the big church on the hill and it was splendid, partially because of the great views of the sea and the rocks below.

A beautiful island with inattentive staff, we started at the vigilantes that there was a toilet thrown down, they were little interested in our notice. You will find it there for sure

Cathedral reached via a staircase undervalued exposed to the sun so the plants that were there were all dry. The whole has many frescoes and statue, including the silver Bust of St. Bartholomew. I wish there were more descriptions inside.

Lipari, the main island of the Aeolian Islands, is home to several historic churches that are worth a visit. One of the best known is the **Cathedral of St. Bartholomew**.
Location and History
Located in the heart of the historic center of Lipari, the Cathedral of San Bartolomeo is dedicated to the patron saint of the island. The church was built in the 12th century during the Norman period, although it has undergone several renovations over the centuries, especially after damage caused by pirate attacks and earthquakes.
Architecture and Interior
The cathedral has an imposing Baroque facade, with two bell towers flanking the main entrance. Inside, you can admire numerous frescoes and decorations in Baroque style. The high altar is particularly impressive, adorned with statues and detailed reliefs.
Atmosphere and Experience
Visiting St Bartholomew's Cathedral is a fascinating experience for anyone interested in history and sacred art. To visit.

It is the largest and most beautiful church in Lipari and probably the oldest one, although nothing remains of the original church (the cloister dating back to the Norman reconstruction period has instead come down to us). The church was rebuilt several times, most recently between the end of the sixteenth and the following century, with further interventions in the eighteenth century, giving the current Baroque imprint to the building (the nineteenth-century renovation was limited to the reconstruction – part of the vault and the upper part of the facade – connected to the damage of an earthquake). Definitely to be seen climbing the long staircase that starts from Via Garibaldi and reaches the Castle of Lipari, right at the foot of this church, to admire its perspective, with the Baroque facade that emerges more and more as you climb. Inside you are immediately struck by the explosion of color of the eighteenth-century frescoes of the cross vaults (neo-Gothic) of the nave, which contrast with the whiteness and sober decoration of the walls. On each side aisle there are four marble altars in as many niches, surmounted by a gilded bust of the saint in turn and a canvas (mostly eighteenth-century works); four other altars are also found in the transepts and particularly valuable are those of the headboards; of the two instead that are in the apses on the sides of the presbytery we can not fail to mention the one on the left, dedicated to St. Bartholomew, from the showy golden Baroque aedicule with the silver statue of the saint in the center (next to this altar should be noted the case that guards a precious silver and gold vessel, which should also guard a relic of St. Bartholomew, or a flap of his skin). In the presbytery, in addition to the majestic altar in inlaid polychrome marble, you can admire the elegant and delicate decoration of the vault, the wooden stalls and the marble bishop’s chair. Near the right transept there are a couple of monumental tombs, while looking at the counterfaçade you will notice, above the compass, the choir with the Baroque organ. The right aisle leads to the Norman cloister, but for this reason I refer to the specific review.

This is a small town and there are not many sites, but this is one that you must do as the paintings on the ceiling are magnificent and unusual. Some other rich decorations as well. Up on top of the hill at the castle.

Suggestive, it tells of the devotion of seafarers, the testimony of profound faith that led to the preservation of important works of art up to the present day

Pretty cathedral with paintings and busts. The 12th century cloister is also worth seeing. The view of the sea from this promontory is magnificent
