This was a wonderful experience! We picked fresh vegetables and cooked an appetizer, main course, dessert, etc. We had a wonderful time and I highly recommend this class.

We were staying at the inn and were quite happy to be able to join in this class. There were only two couples so we had plenty of opportunities to be "hands on". The chef is wonderful. There were several dishes being prepared, and she was very patient in getting us to complete the prep. We made tomato soup, sauce, cico pasta, stuffed lamb, and a few other things including a dessert. And then we got to eat it in the outdoor dining area at the inn, which is beautiful. The only disappoinment is that the recipes we received will not be easy to duplicate. But the experience was brava!!

The Good: the staff was very nice and accommodating. The cooking class that we had booked originally at another school got canceled and the staff at Villa Cicolina was kind enough to squeeze us in last minute. We are vegetarian and they were even able to substitute the meat entree with a vegetarian recipe for us, which was very nice of them. The class itself was lead well, the instructors were very patient. They showed us the technique, answered all the questions that everyone in the class had, and provided us with detailed print outs of the recipes to take home. Lastly, the service and ambiance at the dinner itself was well done.

The Bad: the food was very mediocre. We have had some amazing meals in the region over the last few days, so perhaps our standards were just too high, but we didn’t find the food itself to be anything special. The class is not cheap, at 120 Euros/person we were really hoping to be able to go home with recipes to try to replicate some of the great meals we’ve had in Tuscany...but unfortunately that did not turn out to be the case

Overall: there were other cooking classes being taught at local farms in the area for much cheaper. The reason we picked Villa Cicolina was because we thought that the quality of the food would be better at an actual restaurant. Had we know the food was going to be average, we would have probably taken our chances at one of the farms.

My wife and I had the privilege of cooking with Chef Daniel and Alia. We started with making the local pici pasta which is made differently than other pastas and the thick round noodles were, surprisingly, hand rolled. We then proceeded to make the starter, main course, and dessert. We were informed in advance that we were preparing the meal for all the guests in the restaurant that evening (set menu). The three hour class passed by very quickly and then we had dinner with the full restaurant of guests. It was a great feeling of accomplishment hearing the other guests complimenting the food that we had helped prepare. The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous and just added to the experience. If you like to cook, this is a great learning experience with great people.

We had a good time during the cooking class. The chef teaching the class was great. He was patient and encouraging with us while teaching us to cook many amazing things. There was some pressure in that the food we were cooking was to be served at the villa for all the guests that night for dinner. Because of this it wasn't as relaxing as some other cooking classes we have done. It was still a lot of fun and we found that we learned some good new skills. They gave us a bottle of wine during the class although because we were so busy we actually finished most of it in the break between cooking and when dinner was to be served. The food all turned out great, primarily due to Chef Memo, and we had a lovely included dinner eating the things we had helped cook. We have since tried making the Tuscan chicken recipe we learnt and while it wasn't exactly the same it was still very tasty. I would recommend doing this class if you are looking to learn some Italian cooking and don't mind a bit of pressure in the kitchen.

The grounds of this property are STUNNING and the class provided us a chance to experience the beauty of the location. A few things that I wish I'd know in advance, as this was our first cooking class: 1) We were expected to cook for the guests of the villa, 2) We could have enjoyed the meal without cooking it ourselves (30 euro, instead of 120 euro), and 3) Don't schedule a cooking class in July in Tuscany, it's HOT! Despite these three things, I will say that we did prepare a fabulous meal with Chef Memmo and Alijah, the translator. Our team included a very nice couple from Australia. I do believe there are other classes that don't expect paying guests to act as free labor (although, to be fair, the chef was for certain hampered by the students and would have prepared the meal much quicker) and it would have allowed for a less-serious approach to the class. Others who've reviewed this class enjoyed this aspect, but I was expecting something a little lower-key that allowed room for mistakes. That was not the case and I found Alijah to be a bit bossy and over-bearing when it came to small things. The idea of a class is to learn, to make mistakes, and to improve your craft based on that experience. The Chef was amazingly patient and very willing to demonstrate and teach us. The heat was not to be helped and that was our mistake for booking a class in a working kitchen in July. My recommendation would be that if you've done classes already and don't mind a more serious approach, this could work for you. If you are looking for something that is less-serious and allows you the room to make mistakes as you are not expected to prepare a meal for other paying guests, then do look elsewhere.

The cooking itself was interesting. Three hours flew by. It was impressive, for instance, to realize how much olive oil is used in preparation. Maybe that's why this dinner we prepared turned out to be the tastiest we had during our whole week in Tuscany. In between instructions, while engaged in food prep, we peppered interpreter Alijah with questions about culture. She was gracious with her answers, and went out of her way to type up the recipes for us. The Villa Cicolina's grounds are gorgeous, and the dinner to follow was elegant.

We took the cooking class at this wonderful villa this month in Tuscany. What a wonderful experience! There were four of us taking the class and we made four courses. In addition to this, while it wasn't on the menu, they also showed us how to make pasta and pizza. I have taken cooking classes before, but this one was particularly good, much do to enjoying your meal after in the dining room along with the other guests. Highly recommend and s great value!

We signed up for the cooking class with Chef Mimo and Alijah who was the assistant and the translator. The class was a lot of fun, and Alijah was extremely kind, patient and helpful, making for a wonderful experience. Chef Mimo was very thorough explaining steps carefully - in Italian of course. The class is for four people maximum and quite hands on which is great. The food turned out delicious. We throroughly enjoyed the experience, it was a fun. We highly recommend.

Interested in learning about the delicious foods of this region, my husband and I booked a cooking class with Chef Mimmo and Assistant Chef/interpreter Alijah. What a wonderful experience! It was so fun and yet we learned some special secrets as well. We prepared food for that evenings dinner for 10 - four courses. We even had time to learn how to make all types of pasta. Alijah provided us with the recipes and we are ready to try to cook some of these foods on our own. Chef Mimmo's food is premier. You are learning from the best. We did work hard for 3 hours, but time flew by and it didn't feel like work. Such professionals, so talented, and a wonderful memory of our time in Tuscany.
