Such lovely stones and jewellery. The prices are great and it’s interesting to see the rough stones. The folks that run the place are friendly and knowledgeable. Great location near Litchfield National Park - definitely worth dropping in on the way to or way home from the park.

My first time to the Zebra Rock Mine was in 2000 it was just amazing to see all different rocks and what the people could makes with them.
We have been back there three times more since then and each time I have bought a small bag of rocks to take home and made things with them. We stayed for a day
each time out there.
What a shame they have closed.
I am sure a lot of people will be disappointed..
I could not put the years we were there due to 1st visit 2000 2nd 2005 3rd 2008

I have always wanted to visit this unique place. On our recent visit to Kununurra we made time to drive a few kilometres out of town for a visit. The history of the family who established the mine and who still run it is typical of the pioneering spirit required in the outback of Australia.
We purchased a small piece of each type of stone as a souvenir.

I found out about this place by accident, what a joy to spend the day there. We couldn't get permission to take our 2WD hire car out there so paid the extra for a 4WD- road was great, better than some bitumen highways that heavy trucks have wrecked. Ruth and her team looked after us with great fish and chips, Talks about the stone was very enlightening, and a chance to go mining was an eye opener! Ruth and family are working towards keeping some of this area for future generations to be able to visit, i hope they continue their fight-I for one have told everyone they would be crazy not to visit and if you have a van there is a nice grassed area where you can stay.

Landed here after a flat tire on Duncan Road. What an Oasis. Friendly staff, lots of excellent company to share the traveler stories after dark. Definitely will return.

Visited the area with my family. We dis not visit the mine itself as we were not able to make the time. The area around the exhibition of Zebra rock was interesting with some items for sale. The rea we sat in had some fine example of Zebra rock used as tables.

My wife & I have been on an extended around Australia trip and had scheduled at trip to the Zebra Rock Mine just east of Kununurra in the Northern Territory. We had been told by other travellers and even pick up a brochure about the mine which advertised being open from April to September. We had it included in our itinerary to visit it and camp there over 14-16 September 2019, only to find out that 2 days prior to this that they had closed up the venue and stopped allowing camping on the property, 2 weeks before the advertised season closure without any explanation as to the reason why. We had been on the road for months and had travelled thousands of kilometres from Brisbane and this was to have been one of the highlights of our trip. Talk about being disappointed. I tried to contact them on the day of our scheduled visit but have failed to receive any response from them. For people who say they have the Zebra Rock Mine and informing people about its preservation, they don't seem to know how to treat people properly. Disillusioned.

We spent a day at Zebra Rock. It was a really interesting, gorgeous and fun place to go to. Children loved it and so did the grown ups. The owners will share the fabulous story of how it all started. Food is delicious. You get to experience the polishing of the rocks. You will get to see unique and stunning rocks, found nowhere else in the world. The Boutique is very tempting, and worth buying some unique pieces. We particularly loved the owners state of mind and way of doing things to help preserve the land where the mine is. A MUST SEE!

We stayed 2 nights and did the mine tour. Awesome place for everyone. Great family business. Kids loved handling the snake and blue tongue and polishing the Zebra Rock they found on the mine tour. It's a must visit.

Yes, I believe that you can book ahead for this site and it is advisable to do so between May and October. I have no idea if they are currently offering any deals - best to email them to find out.
Ruth, I was in kunnanurra 10 years ago and also when I was a kid and I remember an old place with a little wharf and we fed the huge cat fish. Are you guys the same place? My friends are travelling in your direction tomorrow on a tour and I really want them to experience the rocks and the catfish... are you guys the same place I remember??

Dear Natism B, the place you are looking for is the Zebra Rock Gallery, Packsaddle Rd, Kununurra. We are a new business, open since 2012, Duncan Rd, NT, 1 hr drive from Kununurra. We have a spectacular variety of Zebra Rock, and conduct mine tours, however the only catfish we have is on the menu, as delicious Silver Cobbler! Tried to phone to check if we go over the border to W A for the mine site. Also is there any powered sites as one of the group of 3 mobile homes needs power to maintain the fridge after 24 hrs

Thank-you for your enquiry and perseverance Betty. We are currently experiencing difficultly with our phone. The Zebra Rock Mine is within the NT, around 10 km before the WA border. All sites are unpowered in natural bush setting. We have a section where generators are allowed to operate. Please don't hesitate with any further enquiries, our best contact is email. The turnoff to Zebra Rock Mine is at the Victoria Highway/Duncan Road junction. Zebra Rock Mine is on the Duncan Road - The turn off is approx 20km before the WA Border & Kununurra is approx 37 km from the border. The actual mine entrance is about 10km (dirt road but good condition) down the Duncan Road .... then a windy scenic drive into the camp ground. So in all about 60+km from Kununurra. Worth every km!!!!
