Giving a poor rating only so I hope it encourages the powers at be to take better care of this monumental building, the grounds are in some state of disrepair. Many headstones are unstable and there has been metal barriers set out to pen them in I wish they would just fix things and keep it all presentable. The outer wall to the pavement is just festooned in weeds it feels disrespectful. However gorgeous building, fabulous cosy suntraps around when the suns out. Nice atmosphere and the church next door were serving coffee and cake.

Gravestone care and maintenance in Scottish cemeteries is the legal responsibility of the grave owner, but this is difficult to enforce within the context of an historic burial ground, several generations down the line in many cases.
We took on full responsibility for the graveyard in 2020 (between the first and second lockdowns) and one of our first actions was to perform a safety-driven condition survey on the memorials. This revealed a number of stones which were in need of either immediate work or required monitoring and possible intervention in the future. We publicised this and asked for relatives/families/relevant parties to come forward to discuss the options open to both them and us to implement remedial action. The number of responses was far fewer than the number of stones requiring attention. It was however essential that works were carried out to stabilise/repair problematic memorials.
To this end, we have taken on the task of repairing/re-erecting/making safe the stones within Dunblane Cathedral graveyard. This is being done methodically and as time, budget and resources allow, taking cognisance of the priorities of our stakeholders in the Church and local community. A number of memorials have already been repaired or re-erected, some by us and/or our contractors, and some privately by the families and descendants of those who are buried.
We do appreciate that the fencing detracts from the appearance of our sites, but it’s doing the very important job of keeping our visitors and staff safe. It is absolutely essential to the safety of those visiting or passing through on the public paths and those who work and worship here.
The weeds are a combination of responsibilities, however we have begun to remove these, again as time and workload allows. The site is single-staffed and most of the time those working on site are inside the Cathedral welcoming and assisting visitors. The operations Works team are also engaged in this but have multiple sites with their responsibilities and have to allocate themselves accordingly.

Dunblane was very quiet when we visited on a Monday afternoon on May. There is a free car park to the side of the cathedral which was easy to find.
We were warmly welcomed as we arrived and given an overview of the building and its history by the steward on duty.
One of our reasons for wanting to visit here was to see the memorial to the primary school children and their teacher who were killed back in 1996. Although it was nearly 30 years ago, it was an event that many of our generation will remember all too clearly.

That was our second visit in Cathedral. We always wanted to be back, as this place is truly beautiful. Lucky enough to have a sunny weather, so we could enjoy light coming through stained windows. A lot of beautiful wooden carvings and great atmosphere.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Free entry (donations welcome) and free parking. Place not to be missed when in Dunblane.

A stunning Cathedral - excellent tour guide. beautifully restored with artefacts from throughout the ages. Well preserved and good to know that the cathedral is still used as a place of worship regularly.

In this not too large town there is this beautiful example of a Gothic style cathedral, the exterior is undoubtedly fascinating, with the typical ancient cemetery of churches in the United Kingdom attached. The interior is also very beautiful, columns, arches, windows, all the ancient wooden elements of particular interest. If you are near Stirling, don't miss to stop by here.

The Cathedral is really a Presbyterian church but holds onto its Cathedral status from a bygone era. Like any Scottish place of worship it’s packed with historical content and well worth looking into.
My particular best view is from the seats of the local bar Tappit Hen (appropriately named Chimes)

This is a very beautiful Cathedral, with amazing stained glass from the Arts & Crafts era. We had a short and informative talk from a guide when we arrived, and then we were able to look around on our own. There is a tiny and peaceful separate chapel, where I sat for some time. Another highlight was the fabulous carved wooden animals on the end of some of the pews. There are many ancient and interesting carved stones and crypts all around the sides of the main aisle. At one point the sun shone through the stained glass by the high altar, and colours on the stone pillars were fabulous.
The monument to the children from the Dunblane shooting is heart-breakingly beautiful, and we took time to explain to the younger people in our party what had happened in 1996.
