Nice surprise to find this free service having walked miles around the Riverside paths. However, don't ask the captain of a ferry just going out of service for some help. He just shouts "look at the notice boards". Blunt and rude as I was just asking where we get tickets as we didn't know at the time it was free.. Be aware that with all the construction going on at least 2 of the pick up and drop off points are closed, so get off early or late.

Get a Go Card in Brisbane

Go Card required for ferry service. You cannot buy a ticket on the ferry, you need to go to an outlet that sells Go Cards. Lots of people got caught today, denied access to ferry without the Go Card. Don’t put too much money as fares are really cheap. The card gives you access to all forms of public transport in Brisbane

A must do while in Brisbane.

Trip from South Bank to Northshore Hamilton ferry terminal and return.
We got tickets for the ferry from the very helpful staff at South Brisbane railway station ticket office (no ticket purchase on board)
We did this trip early evening so had the enjoyment on the return to admire the lights of the city and bridges.

A value for money way to explore

We found the CityCat ferries an excellent, cheap way to see the city from the river with the opportunity to hop-on, hop-off and explore using the Go card
Unfortunately, some of the terminals were still closed awaiting repairs following the floods earlier this year, but the city had provided a free replacement bus service from Kangaroo point to the city Riverside where all the boats were available.
The boats were all kept clean and the toilets were spotless and this is evidence of the pride the crews and deckhands have in their vessels.

This is a review for Brisbane City Free ferry service "kitty Cat" Ferry on the Brisbane river. We were on Holiday in early June 2022. Floods had affected some ferry terminals, so not all were operational. However the Ferry service was just fabulous..
We boarded at South Bank near our accommodation. There was no commentary( least when seated outside) but its a wonderful journey up the river past the Maritime Museum, and onto Riverside ( city stop) and then onto Howards Smiths Wharfs. The stops allow you to access most of Brisbane City main attractions. Ie South Bank, Botanical Gardens, Felons Brew Hall. Outside and inside seating, very regular timetable. The Ferry is easy to access, the terminals, are very clean, and also easy to access. This is a wonderful service for the tourists to the city. Its wonderful to chug under The Story Bridge...A shout out to "Matt" our most amazing Ferry Captain, on more than one trip. You`re a treasure. Kindness, information and patience. Some important info, access for wheel chairs, Pram accessible. No toilets on board. No food or drink, unless water.

A pleasant day on the river

We boarded the ferry one morning at the Eagle Street wharf, close to where we stayed, and travelled upriver to the Northshore Hamilton wharf. We hopped off there and had lunch, then got back on board and then travelled all the way down to the UQ St Lucia wharf. We travelled outside peak time, so it was a very easy and inexpensive way to spend a couple of pleasant hours on the river. Cheaper than an organised boat tour I guess, but without the commentary, it was a delightful way to see Brisbane!

This is not only a fantastic transport system but a great place to take friends or yourself. You can see the city and part of Brisbane from the river that you can't by driving around.
You can travel cheaply and sit out the back to enjoy the view or the sun.
The vessels are clean, run smoothly have disabled access and a toilet. Tap on system is excellent.

Not only is this a convent way to travel into and out of the city from locations along its length, but also a great way to show of the city. Took some friends to see the city via the river.
The service was clean, efficient and outside seating on a great day was fantastic. Like having your our boat. System is easy to work, wharfs are up to date and clean. Toilet on board.
