Since I am a big animal lover, I decided to visit the "Cat cafe" in Budapest. I wasn't sure if I needed a reservation, so I called them and they said that I don't need a reservation in the morning.
I visited it in the morning around 10 a.m. and was accommodated upstairs. Although the nicer part is on the ground floor, I still couldn't choose where to sit. The ground floor is nicely decorated and has several cats, 2 of which are purebred and the rest are ordinary house cats. As I understood from the rules, cats are not allowed to be held in hands. A little girl tried to touch a cat, but she was not in the mood and scratched the girl.
I waited 40 minutes for the coffee and Dobos cake. The service is too slow. I even went downstairs to ask them what they did with the order because they were so late. My experience in this cafe is not good and I would not visit it again.

For cat lovers, the Cat Café in Budapest is an absolute must-visit! The space is beautifully designed with the cats’ comfort in mind, offering plenty of room for them to roam, play, or rest, along with cozy spots to retreat from visitors when needed. Upon entering, you’re kindly reminded of the rules—no picking up the cats—but you’re welcome to pet them, and some may even jump into your lap! The cats all appeared well cared for, with soft, shiny coats, and they seemed content and happy in their environment. Plus, they offer a lovely coffee menu, so you can sip on your favorite drink while enjoying the company of the cats. A perfect spot to relax with some feline friends!

The food and the drinks were really tasty but the ambience was too loud and kind of uncomfortable. When you’re sitting in the entryway and there’s people running around and a lot of people are waiting in line (for a really long time) it starts to feel like a train station. The experience overall was still pretty nice, even tho most cats were asleep or nowhere to be found (wich is okay because they’re animals so let’s not complain about this)

I've been to many cat cafes globally.
This isn't the worst, but it was certainly the most uncomfortable. The heat inside was hotter than outside on a day boasting 30 degree Celsius at its lowest with no air con. This is most likely to ensure nobody stays more than 30 - 60 minutes.
There is no booking system, you simply show up which is nice but expect a wait for a table using this method. As per other reviews, upstairs you will not see a cat. Aim for a table on the ground floor even if this means waiting longer.
Cats are lovely and thankfully aren't afraid to scrab at kids annoying them as the staff certainly won't interject. However, I can see how this will lead to issues with people. There are signs stating what time children are welcome, this is not discrimination. Read the rules.
There is also a sign stating "enter at your own risk". If you get scrabbed or bitten, this is your own issue. I advise travel insurance if you aren't comfortable with this risk.
The cats overall look healthy and are happy to be petted. Those that don't have plenty of hiding spaces away from humans which is excellent as their health comes first, not customers which I think people forget when visiting animal cafes. You are not priority in these.
Other rules from cafes worldwide aren't implemented here which are concerning. Shoes etc allowed without coverings, no need to wash hands before/after entering, told not to use flash for photographs but those using flash allowed to carry on, cats being fed food/drink from customers without intervention.
My poor review simply comes from the following:
Uncomfortable temperature
Staff not intervening before children get hurt
Drinks being substandard
Lack of rules surrounding cat health

Really ideal place For cat lovers. We had two cappuccinos with nutella decorated with cocoa in the style of a cat's foot, very kind staff, the highlight is definitely the sweetness of the cats who are the real stars of the place, especially Sarika.Really beautiful shame there are not so in Italy

Very cute, loads of yummy snacks and pastries as well as some lovely drinks
Plenty of cats to sit with and most were happy to be stroked and petted. Some cats did seem to hide away but that's understandable
The place was well decorated and had some very cosy areas to relax out of the heat of Budapest

I personally did not find Budapest prices high. But, I live in a US city. The cost of lemonade was about 70% the price of one that I purchased at a Starbucks I visited later during my trip and much much better. Lemonade in Hungary is not what we drink in the US. It is a liquid base (water or soda) with real fruit (lemons, oranges, limes) squeezed and sliced into it. If you frequent coffee shops in the US, this will not dent your wallet.
Do an internet search for cat cafe Budapest. The Catcafe dot hu one is a safe site. Irish Coffee 990 ft, Moccachino 620 ft
where as of today, $1 is 275 ft

Dear Jordan,
It's a regular cafe with a lot of cats. You are not allowed to pick up the cats, if you want to touch the cats you will have to wait for them to come to you. As for prices just like a regular cafe.
