В галерее представлены работы местных художников. Ничего на мой взгляд интересно, можно зайти в любой Арт магазин.

Very disappointing indeed

Very uninspiring and you really only need 30 minutes maximum to look around. Poor quality art works with little information available. Such a shame.

This place needs a curator and a restorer ASAP!

What a sad, sorry, place. I felt a wave of pity. This place is more an anachronistic portrait gallery of about fifty mould, dark, old oil-paintings, some bursting from their frames, others badly scratched from not being stored correctly. There was no information relating to any of the paintings. Who are these people? Who is the artist? When was the work completed? What is its significance? What medium has been used? There were no didactics, hand-outs or brochures. No souvenir shop. No cafe. Oh dear. We were in and out in 20 minutes flat.

National Disgrace
2018년 9월 • 커플
There is only one room now at the National Art Gallery where there is no entrance fee. The main part of the Gallery has apparently been closed for the last two years. The paintings are sadly neglected and need urgent help from the authorities.

The sort of place you would expect to see in an impoverished communist state not a lovely island with abundant natural resources and 8 UNSECO heritage sites...!

Visit to the Art Gallery

We were very disappointed with this, There are nice paintings but no plaques with information as to the subject matter or the name of the artist. There should be a small label beneath each painting. There was no one capable of giving us any information, but just 2 security guards!!!
The area next door with the sculptures was closed. Very sad to see this in a beautiful building located in a very nice area in Colombo, located just before the entrance to the National Museum on the left.

Very disappointing

I was expecting so much more from this place, but sadly it was without any artistic forethought. It is free to go in and there was someone on duty who really looked so bored. You can walk around it in 15 minutes. Little to see and lacked any kind of sparkle.

Such a sad museum
2018년 7월 • 친구
Is this the saddest art museum in the world? Four walls of artwork, all victims of neglect without a label as to content or artist. I can appreciate many of the works I look at, but how much better if there was more information.

The security guard told me these paintings were by the most eminent of artists in Sri Lanka. He told me who the portraits were of - various Presidents and Prime Ministers of Sri Lanka. Just as well because I wouldn't have recognised them. The frames, canvasses and paint are all in various stages of decay. How very sad that the talent of the nation ends up in such a state of dire need.

The museum is free. For once in my life I would like to say make an entry charge. It is in bad need of renovation. Art tells the story of a nation.

Whatever you do, go to the toilet BEFORE you arrive here. Trust me!

So bad it’s worth dropping by
2018년 3월 • 커플
Other reviewers have commented on the sad state of the paintings in this neglected hall and it’s true — many works are poorly framed and mounted, water damage is obvious, and there are no labels regarding the artist, subject, or date. It feels like a garage sale of random artworks. Somebody studying to be a curator should be offered a practicum or internship to at least bring this up to the standard of a community art gallery — it has a long way to go to live up to it’s title as a national gallery. Fortunately, the guard came over to us and in limited English (for which we were grateful), indicated that several portraits were of past kings and prime ministers. Admission is free.

Interesting paintings wasted in a grotty room
2018년 1월 • 개인
This is free and it's a single room next to the national museum, so I recommend stopping in, if only to keep the bored guard company. Most of the paintings clearly depict Sri Lankans (some obviously notable people) or colonials, so there must be some national significance, yet there's no information whatsoever about any paintings, and many of the frames are rotting. Some are even quite modern paintings and I wonder how they got there.

Great way to know the History of SriLanka
2017년 12월
It is a rich reflection of Srilankan history and culture. Good place, location wise it is near the Central Park near independence square, great bistros and small yet great eateries.
