Hi Jessie, Would you have phone data during your travel? If you do, google map is your best friend. Just enter your destination and lock your current location; pick your means of transportation (it has icons for trains, bus or walk) and google map will tell you suggestions. Once you’ve got that, you can see bus stops and train stations. You may then want to readjust your search to lock the destination to the specific bus stop or train station if you have to walk there. Alternatively if you do not have data, you are right about any guide to where to go. It’s a lot of alley ways and you may not remember where you have turned. All we can suggest to do is 1. Get yourself to a main road 2. Ask for direction or generally the big roads have signs to point you to train stations and you can see the bus stops 3. Ask someone - it’s a hit and miss because not a lot of them understand English. Good luck.

Yes there are a number of shops where you can rent Kimonos for hours or days. If I recall correctly, they were not cheap though. Some also rent out for an on premise photo shoot.

There are certainly a lot of tourists wearing kimonos. I don't think it is necessary for you to feel self conscious at all about wearing one

I agree with the others who answered, around 6 pm - 9 pm. But walking the streets with the lights and the temple at the end bookending the street is beautiful.

In general they stay pretty late. May I know what kind of store are looking for to try to answer more specifically ?

We went to the 7-8 story of a shopping mall near Gion. Look for department stores. All have a restaurant or buffets or even tens of different independent ramen or bakeries. I didn’t see a buffet, but food is good and reasonable!
