Sharlot Hall museum tells the story of Prescott and its historic culture in so many interesting ways. There are 10 buildings and beautiful grounds to explore. Many of the buildings had docents who were so knowledgeable and friendly. Learning from them was a highlight of my visit!! Highly recommend!!

Pretty little recreated village - not huge. The original Governor's house it probably the highlight.

3.5 - dinged 1/2 star because major buildings closed for repair. This is a small historic village with museum en suite in newer construction. Docent are friendly and informative (One super and the other a little too wrapped up in minutiae - 'I really must be going....') Sadly two of the major buildings were closed and one is essentially the gift shop, though the person tending will speak a bit about the house history and architecture which was appreciated. It's not an exceptionally long stop; figure about 2 hours if you are very thorough. Then stroll down to the center of town by the Courthouse for a sense of Prescott, today .... and 50 years ago.... It's a nice side trip if you're heading down from Flagstaff to PHX, but you do go out of your way - especially if you've taken stunning 89A from Flagstaff and are now continuing on it to Prescott.

If you are in or traveling through the Prescott area I encourage you to spend an hour or two at this museum. Displays are well presented and the buildings are well maintained. The docents are friendly and knowledgeable.

Interesting history of area and buildings

Great place to spend a couple of hours. Beautifully maintained buildings and grounds with interesting history. Natural history with mammoths, wolves etc and Native American displays with pottery, baskets and informative displays. The short film allows a quick history lesson of the museum founder and buildings. Friendly and informative museum attendants gave interesting commentary and perspective. Clean restrooms and gift shop on site.

Hidden Gem of a museum

One of the best museums around. Great friendly staff we had friends from out of town we live south of Prescott so we had them and they agreed. We spent 3 hours there

A step back in time

My husband and I visited the museum for a half day. There are multiple buildings as part of the museum. The original governor’s mansion, two homes built before 1900, an old school house and a museum which showcased the Yavapai nation and how they lived. Very pleasant docents were readily available to answer questions and give further information in each building. A nice experience back in time.

Great local museum!

This is a great local museum in the downtown area. There are 9 different buildings to go thru with docents in some of the buildings that are very knowledgeable. Lots of history with some films to views. We had gone on a weekday so not busy and nominal fee for seniors. Lots of walking on even surface with restrooms thru out the grounds. Great way to spend an afternoon.

A Very Informative and Interesting Place to Visit

We were completely wow'd by this museum! The depth and breadth of information about the area history utterly surprised us. Points of interest range from prehistoric Natives to modern history and covered topics ranging from school to rose garden to rodeos. The docents were incredibly knowledgable, entertaining, and accommodating.

I'm a fan of local history museums and this is one of the best. Multiple outbuildings with very knowledgeable docents in quite a few. Loved hearing the history of Prescott and how in the current day they make the effort to preserve their history. A must stop for anyone in the area.
