I have never given a one star review before. I hike at least 4 days a week and this was probably the worst state park I have ever been to. The signage was terrible, the map they gave you was so small it was unreadable, and the trails we went on were so overgrown with vegetation, I couldn’t believe it. My suggestion would be to skip this park and find a place where they actually care about the trails.

I came here for the super blooms, admittingly that was somewhat underwhelming, but in comparison to wildflowers on East Coast. However, superblooms or not, the views were spectacular. I went on the Blane Trail (something like that) and every step, view was just amazing.

It took awhile to get in, but I felt as if it worth it. After being in LA area for a couple of weeks, it was nice to hear crickets and see grass and a random rabbit.

Definitely need to bring food, water, and a trash bag. Park entrance fee is $10. Alot of people parked outside first entrance and walked up, I personally wouldn't do that. It's uphill to main entrance and not a short walk. Then more walking until you get to a bench and at least a mile til you hit parking/seating for a trail. Once you park, most of the trails are hilly and I think I was on an easier one.

The flowers I saw were nice (orange poppies and mini hyacinths, I think). Based on pictures of the other reviews looks like people were walking through mustard plants that had bolted. When I walked through, they were still in prime rabbit food stage.

HIKERS: gorgeous views during the spring when the glowers are in bloom. Incredibly scenic in every direction. Gets VERY busy during the weekends, we waited over 30 minutes just to get parking on the side roads outside the park. There's no shade so bring water.

CAMPERS: Just got back from a short overnight stay here and we couldn't have loved it more. Can't say what this looks like in other seasons but It is absolutely gorgeous during spring time.

$30 a night with $7.99 registration fee
Includes one car with registration
$5 per night for additional vehicles
Clean flush restrooms with soap dispenser
Showers with warm water
Each site includes: lantern/lamp post, grill, and picnic table. There are fire pits but they're lock and not to be used.

You do get hikers walking by and driving by occasionally but it didn't bother us one bit. They kept to themselves.

Sites are on a hill so you have gorgeous views all around. Trails are a short walk in every direction.

No cellular service so download what you need prior to entering the site.

All in all we really enjoyed our little quick escape from the city. Only a short drive and you're surrounded by nature.

This is a great state park!

There are miles of trails, campgrounds, and beautiful views to be had at this park. When we went (May 2021), it was also really hot. The park is well reviewed so here's some logistical tips:

1. There is also a western entrance off Carbon Canyon Rd that includes a Discovery Center. TA has the listing and reviews for this.

2. Do not park on Sapphire Road and try and walk in. You'll not see much of the park. Drive south along Bane Canyon road all the way in. There will be an entrance gate with a Ranger. Pay the entry fee and get the park trail map. If you park on Sapphire, you'll miss most of the park.

3. Bring drinks, snacks, etc. It was really hot when we were there. Don't get dehydrated.

4. During summer, there are rattlesnakes. Be aware. The ranger mentioned that they'd already taken a couple of people to the hospital that weekend.

5. This is a larg-ish park with miles of hiking trails. Bring good solid hiking boots or shoes and camera/phone for pics. I know the latter sounds elementary but this is a very senic location.

Love coming here during spring. Last time we came several years ago, we saw California poppies. This year, hills are covered in mustard yellow. Beautiful. We parks on the street and walked up the paved driveway. At the tops of the driveway, there is a path both to the left and right. We took the path to the right. Ended up coming back the same path after 2 mile in but if you continue, it does hit down to the paved road which you can also walk back up. Recommend to wear long sleeves and long pants. Some of the paths are narrow with plants on both sides looking to over take it. Some steep hills as well so hiking shoes recommended.

Beautiful park for hiking especially during the time of lockdown with the corona virus crisis. We went there today and able to walk along the main road but most of the trails are closed due to recent heavy rain. For people that are looking for the super bloom like last year, they will be disappointed. No much flowers around. The only ones we saw were the yellow flowers sporadically spread along the hill sides. There is a $5 charge for driving deep into the park. If you just want take a hike, you can just park your car at the entrance at the Bolton of the hill and walk up to the park., no charge for that. Everyone should go out to the park where everyone can keep a big social distance and still enjoy nature.

I so enjoy visiting this park, especially in the fall and spring! There are great paths all along side the road. There are not many people there, so it is a peaceful place to visit. The park is well-maintained and the staff is always polite and professional.

It's a great escape amidst the city. Late summer the fire danger is high and the hills are brown, but it is still pretty and nice to be outside.
