What an absolute joy it was to visit such a stunning garden so close to a city. There was some work going on which I assume, when it is complete, will give better facilities for cafe and gift shop. However, the absence of these did not deter from the sheer beauty and tranquility of the gardens. I will definitely go again and take visitors.

We went with a group on a Buddhist half day retreat. A last minute change from another park which somehow fell through.
They accommodated us & saved the day. The day was warm despite being under a tree & the area not conducive to a retreat frankly but the grounds are gorgeous & definitely worth a visit to tour the house & lush greenery on another visit.

Butterfly garden, the Rose Garden, and Dinosaur exhibit are a few highlights of a lovely day trip to Harry P. Leu Gardens. (There is no longer a floral clock...need to update that info, folks)

For All You Plant Lovers

For an early Mother’s Day adventure, we explored the gardens which was beautiful with many plant life and some beautiful flowers (with a few good photo ops too). It was a nice pleasant visit (approx 1-2hrs you could walk the entire gardens). My only complaint was I was mistaken and thought there would be more flowers vs plants but it was still nice! We didn’t end up doing the Museum tour as it already started when we were headed out for the day. I do recommend arriving early to get a good parking spot (free). The location is perfect to many local restaraunts too to grab a bite after (there was a small food cart on the premises) but unfortunately the gift shop was under renovations.

Beautiful Gardens

Beautiful gardens with so many different areas to explore. Especially love the butterfly garden. The plants are well-labeled. Most of the garden areas are handicapped accessible with paved pathways. Food trucks offer drinks and snacks, and bathrooms are available in the main building. The only disappointment was their lovely gift shop was closed as the building is undergoing renovations.

Easy walk through beautiful gardens

Took a peaceful walk through the gardens - what a great way to get some exercise and spend some time outdoors. We walked the gardens in about an hour. We went on a Thursday morning and it was not crowded. Lots of opportunities for photos!

It was very beautiful and I enjoyed my visit. The Leu home was not open when I went so I can’t speak of it, but the Butterfly garden was gorgeous as well as the tropical section.

The Harry P. Leu Gardens in Orlando, Florida, are a wonder to behold. The semi-tropical and tropical gardens, which were started in 1936, contain nearly 50 acres of landscaped grounds and lakes with trails shaded by 200-year-old oaks and forests of camellias. In fact, the camellia collection is the most important collection of plants at Leu Gardens. It ranks among the largest in the United States and is one of the largest documented collections in the southeast. Located at 1920 North Forest Avenue, the complex also features a 15-acre section of the park known as the Mizell-Leu House Historic District, which contains three historic buildings and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Now known as the Leu House Museum, which illustrates turn-of-the-century Florida living, it offers guided tours on the hour and half-hour. The gardens are known for their extensive collections of aroids, azaleas, bamboo, bananas, bromeliads, camellias, citrus, conifers, crepe myrtles, cycads, ferns, flowering shrubs, flowering trees, gingers, heliconias, hibiscus, mallows, magnolias, ornamental grasses, palms, perennials, roses, trees and vines. Another interesting site is the Mizell Cemetery, which contains 36 marked and unmarked graves of family members, including David and Angeline Mizell, the original owners of the land, and tombstones dating to the 1860s. Start at the Garden House, a 22,000-square-foot building which opened in 1995 and is the entrance to Leu Gardens.

We had a few hours to burn before heading to the airport and this garden made for a lovely experience! Really appreciated how they decorated for the Christmas holiday and the tour of the historic home was worth the time.
