This was our first stop in Indy and it was nice to stretch our legs after the drive. They were/are(?) currently under construction but I don't think it took away from not seeing too many animals. It was slightly chilly but I think that didn't deter many of the animals from coming out of their habitats. Indy has a unique Macaw and Orangutan set up and I would recommend stopping by!

Nice zoo. When we went their was a lot of construction going on. Will be interesting to see what they are adding in the near future. There were several animal exhibits where the animals were not on display. I assume it was because of the cooler temperatures. Was in the 40's when we visited. Enjoyed seeing the zebras, antelopes, elephants, and orangutans.

Indianapolis Zoo is more than a zoo. It also is a public aquarium and a botanical garden. Located at 1200 West Washington Street, in White River State Park, it is among the largest privately funded zoos in the United States. It opened in 1964 at a site in Washington Park but moved to its current site in 1988. Open from 9 to 4 Monday through Thursday and 9 to 5 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the 64-acre property features a zoo that houses 235 species and 1,416 animals and adjoining White River Garden that contains more than 50,000 plants of nearly 3,000 species. Situated within White River State Park, one mile west of Monument Circle, the White River hugs the zoo's eastern and northern boundaries, physically separating the zoo from downtown Indianapolis. The zoo is organized around the concept of biomes or areas of the planet with similar climates, plants and animals. For example, Deserts features tortoises, iguanas, lizards, turtles, rattlesnakes, cobras, pythons, boas and mambas. Flights of Fancy highlights flamingos, two-toed sloth, Arctic fox, starlings, great horned owl and red-tailed hawk. Forests is home to American alligator, Orinoco crocodile, Alaskan brown bear, bald eagle, golden eagle, Amur tiger, orangutans, red panda and red kangaroo. Oceans features starfish, gray seal, walrus, California sea lion, penguins, bottlenose dolphins, southern stingray and green moray eel. And Plains is home to African bush elephant, gazelle, African lion, ostrich, cheetah, zebra, southern white rhino, giraffe and wildebeest. It's more of everything than I have seen at any other zoo.

We were very disappointed that a lot of the animals were not out. Chats were not available. Some things were not available until 11 or 12 to participate in. With the zoo opening at 9, this did not make any sense. We were told that if we come back after May 1st there would be more opportunities. We live out of state so we'll not be back.

Very nice zoo! I love the layout and sections for desert, oceans, forests, etc. The dolphins show is short but awesome. Lots of interactive stuff near the front of the zoo. We saw everything that was open and walked about 15k steps. The rollercoaster is more aimed for big little kids (8-10) - my 12 and 14 year olds were a little disappointed in it. The tram wasn’t open yet. And my littles (3 and 6) enjoyed the carousel and train. Little sad we missed the butterflies by a few weeks. Only downside is the price of foods/drinks inside. $4 for a bottle of water is pure insanity.

The zoo is not huge, you can see everything in about 2h. The zoo kept several animals at small places, separated from the complete environment reserved to them, to keep them disposal to people see them. It’s very bad to them. The lion was stressed, roaring. The orangotango was so sad that his sorrow was visible.

We went to the zoo two days after Christmas and only because the Children's Museum (which we had come to town to see) was unexpectedly closed for the day. It was cold, but that meant there were hardly any people there, and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. There were enough indoor exhibits that we found plenty of opportunities to warm up. Even without many of the outdoor exhibits being open due to the season, we had a fantastic time! I particularly loved the marine animals, especially the sea lions and dolphins, and the dolphin show in the evening was wonderful. The employees we encountered were friendly and knowledgable, taking the time to talk to my family about the animals and answer questions. We loved hearing about the brown bears and the sharks and stingrays in the touch tank (my oldest son LOVED Pancake, the black stingray). We also really enjoyed the orangutan exhibit and how close we were able to get to the animals. We stayed for the lights in the evening, and the kids had a great time exploring Santa's Village. This is not the biggest zoo, but I would definitely say it's one of the best, with a fantastic conservation message and animals that appear happy and well cared for. I am so glad our original plans pivoted so that we got to experience a wonderful day at the zoo!

We have been members of the zoo for many years and enjoy the exhibits. We have been disappointed in some of the changes in the past few years. Our little children miss the playground and the splash park. We do not enjoy going there when the weather is hot due to the lack of cooling stations. It would be nice to enjoy a picnic in the zoo because the food is expensive and not very good. Hot chocolate and hot coffee would be nice on a winter visit. We don’t appreciate liquor being served on the premises since it is a family destination. We also wish that there were signs in the parking lot to help us find our car. It is easy to get lost snd with the crime downtown I want to tell police where I am if there were any trouble.And let us not forget to mention the train ride that takes uou past the dumpsters n the back of the zoo.! Surely you
can do better than that.

We visited during the holiday season and didn't know that it was better to go at night. None the less we still had a great time! It was like we had the whole zoo to ourselves. They had a roller coaster and a sky lift but they were closed for the season.

Very cool zoo that wasn’t too spaced out. Because of this our kids were able to walk the whole zoo without a stroller (4 and 5 year old). The kids loved the dolphin area! We don’t have dolphins at our zoo so they are now our new favorite animal.

Does the zoo have peacocks?
Unfortunately no we do not have peacocks but instead we have larger birds such as the ostrich and storks. There are other various bird species as well just smaller.

I did not see any peacocks.
Do i have have proof of age for my almost two year old shes tall for her age so most mistake her for two n i dont want to get there n they not let us in cas of it
Any child that is younger than 2 years old usually gets in for free. I know that there are certain age limits for kids when riding the rides such as if they are younger than 2 they can ride for free however each ride depends on height and age so keep that in mind.
