I was so excited to finally hike Mount Greylock this summer (a goal for the past 5 years!). At the Visitor's Center, there are easy hikes that loop back to the parking lot. At the Summit, there more rigorous hikes that are part of the Appalacian Trail. We hiked at the Visitor's Center than drove up to the Summit and did some hikes there.
At the Summit there is a gorgeous view as well as a stunning War Memorial. Inside the War Memorial is a narrow spiral staircase that you can take to the top for additional views. The staircase is very tight, but worth the climb if you're able.

We went on a mildly rainy day as to not waste our day. Ride up was safe. Be sure to stop at visitor center. Check out the Bascom Lodge as well. The granite tower is beautiful. If you are lucky to get a clear day you will have phenomenal views for miles. On a rainy day, look out for a few small waterfalls on your way down. Very cool place to visit. Lots of history.

Owner and staff are extremely kind, fun, and helpful. Sites are large and woodsy. Lots to do. We scheduled a family trip last minute that required 1 camper and 2 tent sites and they made it work for us. We had a great time in their large pool after climbing Mt. Greylock. It's got a state park feel with all the amenities and most pleasurable owner and staff. It's dog friendly too.

We drove up to the summit and explored. The climbed the steps to the top of the tower and the views are spectacular all the way around.
The stairs are a very narrow spiral staircase that one person can fit at a time.
The visitor center staff was so helpful!

On a recent road trip vacation, my wife and I stopped here on our drive from Hyde Park, NY to Williamstown, Massascuhsetts. We came up the Mount Greylock Scenic Byway (starts on Route 7 in Lanesborough, Mass.) and our first stop was the Visitors Center (30 Rockwell Road). I highly recommend making the Visitors Center your first stop. They have some good exhibits and information and maps on all of the different trails.
We then drove to the summit, had a picnic lunch, and climbed the War Memorial Tower and took in the views.
We then went for a relatively easy hike on the Stoney Ledge Trail (7.6 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 494). The trail ends at Stoney Ledge, which has an excellent view of Mount Greylock.
There are lots of trails with varying degrees of difficulty, so there is something here for everyone who enjoys a walk in the woods.
We then headed out of the Reservation site and followed the Scenic Byway north to Williamstown.
A very enjoyable day.

Nice visitor center film on history of memorial and area. Did shortest hike on well established trail to scenic overlook. Then drove to top to see the monument. Nice views and war memorial.

The staff of the visitors center are both friendly and helpful. Nice exhibits of the areaand the CCC camp that was at Mt. Greylock. And FYI, if you are a geocacher, there is a somewhat tricky geocache located in the visitor center. The drive up to Mt. Greylock is very scenic. Great views from the tower.

Great campground. Have small travel trailer with electric, cable, water. & sewerage. Had electric water & grey water discharge into special pipe.
Note u need an adapter for this to screw it in and the hosts gave us one for free! So nice. There is no cable, cell phone signal, or WI FI, unless pay for it through private co 5$ day. We DO NOT feel comfortable giving credit card # to unknown co. Would of gladly paid for it through camping fees. Hope they take note of this!
Otherwise beautiful camping area. Large campsite, biggest we ever had! So nice. It was 100 degrees in Boston and 80’s beautiful at campground. Have pool & nice play area. Take food & drinks w you as there is not many stores near. Greylock is beautiful. Lived Here all my life, never been here. It rivals NH, I think it’s more beautiful and so much less commercialized. Loved that. Top of mountain is breathtaking. We had a great time. Rested, restored, and will spread word on this beautiful area. Hosts are great!

A beautiful historic site. Trails vary from easy to strenuous. The views from the War Memorial are absolutely gorgeous. I was in awe

I’ve visited Mt Greylock twice this year (Spring and Summer). It’s about a 30-minute drive from Lenox to the base and another 15-20 minutes to drive up to the summit. It’s a scenic drive. Take your time and use extreme caution (be mindful of the hiker crossings and the hairpin turns).
There is a visitor center at the base, scenic overlooks o the way up and a decent amount of parking at the summit. Facilities are limited at the top. Several porta potties and regular restrooms in the lodge.
Fantastic views of the mountains and valley. There is an open area where couples/families can picnic and take in the views. There are numerus hiking trails for all skill levels.
The lodge was closed on our first visit but was open on the second visit. They appeared to be selling some snack items. We had out own food so didn’t go check out what they had.
The temperature was very cool in the Spring (dropped into the 40’s/50’s) so a light jacket is a good idea. Much warner in the summer…pleasant 70’s. Didn’t have any issues with bugs at the summit, but several hikers were talking about ticks they picked up while hiking in the woods below the summit.
Easy drive back down the mountain….and then we stopped for a meal at Olde Forge tavern about 5 min drive from the base.
Mt Greylock is a nice spot for a day trip when visiting the Berkshires (and it's free) :-)

Website says 9am - 4pm sun- sat. It doesn’t say anything about closing for snow or ice but I know they do close so it might be worth a call during their open hours and ask a park ranger if they will stay open during inclement weather.

question about Mt Greylock. Going there for Columbus Day weekend. Bascom Lodge, the restaurant at the top I've heard about----is it open in the fall/October?
What would folks recommend for fairly easy trails?
Finally, I'll be staying in the town of Cheshire, right near Mt Greylock. Are there lakes nearby for kayaking?
Thanks for any and all feedback!

Cheshire Reservoir and Onata & Pontoosuc lakes are all right in the area, at the base of the mountain. I'm not sure if any offer kayaks to rent, but your hotel or lodge may know. The area is beautiful!

Are there water fall in Mount Greylock and if so are they hard to get to?
2017년 9월 19일 작성
Yes there are waterfalls in Mount Greylock reservation. You can find them by going online to Mount Greylock reservationand ask for waterfalls.

Cloud level can be low enough to obscure the tower, as it was during our visit recently.
We could see it, but as if through thick fog.
The road to the summit may be closed in winter due to snow.
Also, FYI: On our recent visit, the tower and/or area around it appeared to have construction or repair work going on.
You best check with the visitor center in both regards

How far from the main road (N. Main Street) to the top of the mountain?
2016년 10월 4일 작성
It wasn't too far to go to the top. Luckily there was no traffic. Driving up was less than half hour. The only problem you might encounter is when the parking lot gets full. But cars pull out so wait might not be long. Luckily we didn't have this problem.

I am looking for a place to park my car, maybe part way up the mountain, backpack on the Appalachian Trail and camp overnight (to celebrate my 80th birthday). I would return the same way or preferably do a loop to another parking area...either carpool or get a taxi to the starting point. I am looking for a moderate hike (neither easy or strenuous). Do you have any suggestions?

I will be driving from Colrain Ma. I would like to hike a trail to the top , Is there a trail that is not too hard for me? I am 65 and in good shape but don't want to kill myself hiking .thank you
2015년 9월 5일 작성
Probably the easiest trail is the Cheshire Harbor trail. It's what they use for the Ramble every year. Young kids and senior citizens hike it all the time.
