360 Panoramic view! Must visit if you are in Nepal! Highly recommended. If you can not walk in this altitude, just the the Helicopter tour, it is an amazing!

Kala Patthar is one of highlights of an Everest Base Camp trek. The peak has great views of Everest and is the highest point many hikers reach on the trek. Kala Patthar is the spot for those who wish to see an up-close unobstructed view of Mount Everest. The 360-degree mountain view from Kala Patthar is absolutely stunning!

While the trek to EBC is amazing, the Kala Patthar summit is even more breathtaking .. and quite an accomplishment! Getting to EBC is great, and it’s so fun to stand directly below earth’s highest point, however, getting to the top of Kala Patthar leads to stunning views of some of the highest mountains in the world and the closest view you’ll ever get of Mt. Everest. Also, the view of Pumori is quite impressive as you trek up the mountain. I can’t wait to go back someday!

Photos's won't do it justice- great views of the sun setting/ or rising on Everest. We did it in the evening and were so glad we didn't get up at 4am to climb it- we got back down just as head torches were required. We didn't stay around at the top as the wind was crazy and I could barely keep myself upright- and pretty much ran down as quickly as I could- took a good few hours before I could feel my fingers and toes- I was so grateful for the poles and it helped in the wind, and meant I could descend at speed. If you go in the morning it'll be a very early start and you'll be climbing in the dark. It was -18 before factoring in the 30mph winds!! The wind surprised us as during the day it had been lovely.

This was the highlight of the 12 day trek and that is saying something as the whole EBC trek was amazing. The views of Everest, surrounding mountains and Khumba Glacier were simply incredible. At 5440m it is a bit of a climb but I can't recommend it highly enough. If you have an option go at sunset (bring a torch to get back) as Everest has a brilliant orange glow to it, whereas at sunrise you just have the sun in your eyes. We only got half way up but still good.

Whilst these treks are always advertised as being to Everest Base Camp, the real highlight is going to the top of Kala Patthar for the views from the highest point you will reach on the trek.
We did it in the morning, and it was hard work. I wanted to stop a number of times, but made it to the top. By far the best views of Everest that we got on the whole trek.
Some in our group did stop part way up, and the views are still good from there. I would certainly recommend going at least part way up.
You go to EBC as it is the stated objective of the trek (and is actually worth it anyway), but Kala Patthar is the real highlight. Don't miss it.

The best place to see everything you wish on the way to EBC. The views are spectacular and the trek up to the peak is worth the effort. Bring warm clothes and gloves no matter what, as the peak is a cold place to be. My preference is to do EBC during the day and Kala Patthar at dawn. Walking poles will assist you no matter what so it's worth the effort having them. The only downside to Kala Patthar is the fact that Gorak Shep has only one real Hostel and it is a 'Kip'. Beware of the water situation as again a lot of peope have suffered as a result of the lack of quality this year.
