Dear 527hayleam, we are sorry that you have not been satisfied with our response to this particular situation. As explained on the phone, the Police are responsible for assisting horses found loose on the roads and if they have been placed in a field by officers this would then need to be followed up with them. Sadly the demand for spaces at the Sanctuary is incredibly high meaning our Redwings Ada Cole centre is full. The landowner, through the Control of Horses Act, can apply to take ownership of the horses if no-one comes forward to claim them. After following this procedure, the landowner can then legally make provisions for their future, such as rehoming them. As explained above, trying to rehome within equine charities is extremely difficult and we must ensure we have space for those most urgent welfare cases. Redwings has already received over 70 requests from owners trying to rehome their horses this year alone, equating to 105 horses. Your call did concern us and as a result our Senior Field Officer made contact with the landowner this week to advise and offer our further assistance in trying to find a solution for these horses, and they were very satisfied with our approach. Hi 743anony, thank you so much for visiting Redwings Ada Cole and for your kind words. It sounds like our rescued ponies were feeling a little shy that day :-) Just to explain, from time to time, some of our paddocks are left empty as part of the strategic land management of the site and to ensure we have enough grazing to keep our hungry herds happy throughout the year. We host activities, such as talks, tours and pony grooming, during the school holidays so we hope you'll be able to pop back during the summer to join in. Thank you for your support.
