Well-done museum!

This was a very interesting museum. My husband was interested in the huge rifle display. I enjoyed the exhibits showing how buffalo and furs were traded and transported. There is also an outside portion where you could see a tipi and sod house. We thought this was an excellent stop with well thought out exhibits.

I was extremely impressed with this museum. It is so comprehensive of not only the fur trade in this region, but how the world was impacted. The exhibits are so thoughtfully laid out and the narratives are to the point without too much text that can be over whelming.

If you are interested in western history, Native Americans, early trade or guns, this place is a gem. Vast collection-we spent several hours here. Saw many items that I have never seen before at other museums. Collection includes items O had only read about in books. Helps make history real.

A Must See!!

Amazing museum that compares to the Smithsonian in DC! I learned more in 2 hours than I would have reading books on the subject. Well explained with hundreds of artifacts from the 1800’s and even a rifle from 1640! I didn’t know how important the fur trade was for the economic development of the US snd Canada. The native peoples benefited immensely as well.

My husband and I drove here as a day trip from Custer as part of our Dakotas vacation. It is a remarkable place with things to interest anyone. Well worth the drive.

Perfect small museum

This is well run, beautifully done little museum with lots to see. It's great for young kids as it's not super large and it explains the history of the west in a way that's engaging and factual. It has some great outdoor exhibits as well.

"A Must Visit" Museum

This museum is the perfect place to learn about the history of fur trading in the U.S. My husband was a fur trapper, and he enjoyed visiting the museum. The gift shop offers a comprehensive selection of books about fur trading and Wyoming history. Used books about varied topics are sold at the museum too. I purchased a book about Chocolate Desserts.

History of the Fur trade told here!

This museum experience was broad and deep. I expected it would cover midwest fur trade, but it touched native American tribes throughout the U.S. It also has a short outdoor trail that leads to the James Bordeaux trading center and a tepee. A great way to spend 2 hours.

Really well put together museum!

This small museum is really packed with Native + fur artifacts. Very nicely displayed! I would happily suggest the Museum of the Fur Trade for anyone interested in Native American history, in fact anyone interested in fur would love it also. After the museum you can wander a foot path to the trading post sod cabin & warehouse. 👍🏻
