This is Nebraska's oldest state park. It wasn't on my original Nebraska itinerary but I am glad we stopped there. The park does it all. It has camping, paddle boats, fishing, a pool, a shooting range, sledding hill, hunting, apparently, because there is a game cleaning stand. There is a scenic drive with trailheads coming off it. The drive is gorgeous and it is well worth stopping and hiking a trail. We did the Steamboat Trail, which is only about a mile and a half. There are vault toilets (gendered, for some reason, which seems silly) at the trailhead. The views are spectacular. We were there on a weekday and we had the trail to ourselves. A great all around park and I'm sure it is a terrific resource for locals.

We had passed the sign for Chadron State Park on our way toward our hotel in Chadron so we decided to come back the next morning after checkout. We stopped at the office just inside the entrance. There is a little pond with docked paddle boats and picnic shelter and an instagram photo frame all to the right if the office. Inside the office are a few souvenir and snack and camping supply items for sale. Plexiglass is installed at the counter so conversation (and checkout ) with the two friendly women that were working there was easygoing and stressfree from Covid worry. The scenic drive was beautiful as the morning sun was causing the Red, Yellow, and Orange colors to appear to actually glow! I imagine that the park would be an amazing place in Summer as there are cabins, basketball, volleyball, tennis courts, playground, archery targets, hiking trails, horses… and a sled hill for winter. It is dog friendly so after driving the scenic drive we took a short walk around the little pond to stretch Chewbacca’s little legs and take more pictures. There is also a small flower garden right by the office/pond, too.

Nice state park to spend a few days. Camping spots are clean and well-maintained. Restrooms and shower rooms are also quite clean. Hiking trails are nearby and worth taking. The Blackhills Overlook Trail is especially nice to see big views of the area.

This is a very, very nice park. We were only there for a drive through but the scenic drive was very cool. The scenery was incredible.

We visited our daughter and her family and were impressed with this camping spot. There is a fishing pond, well kept camping spots,

Pretty park with cabins and camping available. Several hiking trails, pool, tennis & volleyball courts, fishing, archery, bike rentals, trail rides etc. Was a quick stop for us and not everything open due to time of year but we enjoyed a drive and a hike.

While visiting the Rapid City area, we took a day trip to Chadron State Park. Lots of Amenities & things to do for a day or more. We only did the scenic drive from visitor center loop around the park and back. Highly recommend the Blackhills Overlook Trail, did not complete the 1.8 mi, but a couple of hundred feet from the parking lot is a lookout point. This park is truly a hidden gem.

My relative live in Chadron and while we were visiting they took us for a little drive through this beautiful State Park. Campgrounds looked well kept and clean. The park also rents cabins that looked pretty spacious and looked like a great set up for families.
The park also has a small lake, baseball field, volley ball nets, nice old fashioned playground equipment (can you say old time merry-go-round), a swimming pool, horse back riding, archery, biking and running paths. At the top of the park on a clear day you can see the start of the Black Hills.
It is such a wonderful park and if you have a chance to stop by for an afternoon or a few days you won't be disappointed.
