Avoid pay & display car park

Crowed Bay was lovely and will definitely visit again. Beautiful beach...however DO NOT park in the pay and display, we were fined £100 despite paying the correct tariff, use the Down End car park instead, more tourist friendly.

Lovely beach - Car Parking scam if you use Croyde Beach ‘Public’ Car park - Parkdean Resorts

WARNING DO NOT PARK OR TURN AROUND IN THIS CAR PARK. Do not be fooled by the Public Car Park signs at the car park situated at the North of the bay. There is a reason why this car park has spaces in the height of the summer whilst being the closest to the beach and public toilets. Do not follow the public car park signs - this is not a public car park it is a private car park. Park at the National Trust Car Park 2 mins further along the road. The parking here is a scam. It is now governed by ANPR without adequate signage to indicate that is the case and he cameras are not located at the car park - rather you pass these as you enter the holiday park, to find a space, get parked and work out how to pay to park will take you at least 5 mins by which time Parkdean Resorts and their agents ParkingEye have already issued a £100 fine whether you then go on to pay to park or not. There is no physical way you are able to pay as soon as you enter the car park. We left paying to park for 5 mins whilst deciding if we wanted to stay at this car park then bought our ticket for the rest of the day. On returning home we had a parking fine letter which seemed to imply we hadn’t paid at all (having used the parking app). So we appealed as we had evidence that we had paid to park. Parking Eye refused our appeal and say as a gesture of goodwill they will reduce the fine by £40 to £60 if we paid within 14 days. So lesson learnt do not go one minute over your paid for time - there is a reason why the car park closest to the sea is not full even on a sunny summer holiday day!
It’s possible both Parkdean Resorts and ParkingEye are in breach of legislation/regulations governing operation of private car parks - misrepresentation as a public car park (signs displayed on the road leading to the car park , not enough signage relating to the use of ANPR and planning with the amount and size of signage surrounding the park. Please use any of the other car parks in Croyde - the National Trust one has an excellent cafe attached - all have a grace period at the start or end and you will be able to enjoy this lovely beach and walks to Baggy Point without the disappointment we had.

This is such a lovely place to visit in Devon. The beach is fantastic and the water was so warm. Lovely walks up onto Baggy Point and beyond. Lovely pubs. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Spent a week at Ruda holiday park in Croyde plenty of nice walks pleasant village housing shops restaurants gift/Sweet/Ice cream parlour a Market on a Thursday and craft fair held in and around the Church Hall a very well kept Village

Great beach spoiled by parking fine.

Fantastic beach with great facilities and life guards. Unfortunately watch out for the ParkingEye carpark where they will fine you for a few minutes over even though I had proof of payment. There is ( as you often find in such places ) a lack of signal for mobiles, so we were unable to pay using the app. We had to therefore scrabble around for coins, which we found, and paid £1.60 to have a look at the beach on evening. This few minute delay cost us a £60 fine. Beware.

Watch out if using the car park to just buy food

We stopped off at Croyde beach and parked in the Down End car park to get some food. Unfortunately the cafe took 35 minutes to heat a pasty so we were over the 'free time' by 15 minutes. Ended up with a fine of £40.00 and to be honest the pasty wasn't that nice. The cafe was not that busy so it was disappointing it took so long to serve us. Needless to say we won't be visiting again.

Nice place, great beach and views.

Great place, excellent views, nice beach a decent facilities. Waves looked decent also and surfers were having fun. In my opinion, only let down by the rules not allowing dogs on beach.

Great beach- AMAZING LIFE GUARDS!

Spent the afternoon here today on a fairly overcast day. So I didn’t see the bay at its best. What I would like write about is how great and hard working the life guards were. Very friendly and very on the ball. I’m a very happy man knowing that I donate to the RNLI, with these guys as a benchmark! Well done guys

Captivating croyde bay!

So we've actually been coming to croyde bay for 20 years now! Every summer camping since before we had kids. We love it. We know the area so well. Love the beach, the town, the shops and the people. Guaranteed a brilliant holiday staying here. Even on wet or windy days still much to do in the area.
