One of my sons had won an "experience" at Thruxton driving super cars as well as single seater racers. The facilities for observers excellent good quality cafe/canteen with viewing terrace on 1st floor. Well organised team of staff looked after all the participants.

Came with my son for a Racing Car Experience. Arrived at 7.45am for 8.30 start expecting a briefing before the session start. Turns out the briefing started at 8.30, so we could have arrived a bit later. However, as early arrivals, we were given a free breakfast, so no complaints there!
We came for a Racing Car Experience, which is comprised of 3 laps driven by an instructor in a Ford Focus ST (2.3 litre), followed by driving a Porsche Cayman (2.9 litre) for 3 laps, then a Formula Renault 1.7 litre single-seater for 5 laps and finally a fast ride in a Focus ST. Additionally to this, my son paid for a 3-lap drive in an Audi R8 4.2 litre.
It was just great fun! I don't suppose I set any lap records (except possibly for the slowest 5 laps in the single seater) but it was all just brilliant. All the instructors, reception people, pit crew and canteen staff were excellent and you really got a sense that they genuinely wanted you to have the best time there. The vehicles were all superb (well, the single-seaters were a bit rattly but they were still a great drive) and all the clothing and equipment needed was provided and was clean and in good condition.
As things worked out, we were not standing around much at all. The first ride around the circuit was waiting for us when we came out of the briefing. We stepped out of that car and straight into the Porsche and from the Porsche, straight to the single-seater. After the single-seater, there was a short wait for the fast ride (maybe 15 minutes). However, if we'd had to wait around, warm clothing would certainly be required as there wasn't much shelter to get out of the chilly wind - but the documentation did warn about that.
How would I assess this experience?
- People/Service:
Top notch, everyone was helpful and patient and obviously wanted you to get the best out of the day. The instructors were expert and you just felt at ease with them.
Definite tick for that.
- Content (Equipment, etc.):
I've made a comment about the single seaters, but they were still great fun to drive. Everything else was just excellent and the Focuses (Focii?), Porsches and Audi were in excellent condition. No problem with a tick for this!
- Environment:
All the cars, clothing and equipment were in good order and squeaky clean. I liked the way we were issued hairnets to wear under the helmets for the fast ride - hygiene was really thought about. The restaurant was very good - service and food certainly up to par. I saw one negative comment about the state of the circuit, but I couldn't really fault it and found the track surface fine and the guide markers really helpful. Tick for this too.
- Value for Money:
Well, it was quite an expensive day, I think, with the extra drive, it came to about £490 for two of us, so £245 each. But it was such a brilliant morning, it was certainly worth it! Another tick.
- Would I go again/recommend:
In a shot and definitely! No question about the fifth tick!
The overriding memory of the morning was what a great time we had. As the title says, it was the most fun I've had in years and we're still talking about it!

A great family experience on the skid pan with David. Everyone had a good go including spins and skids, careful instructions and advice. Brilliant meeting room for briefing and viewing with big windows to see the action but keep the cold out.

Very poor Go Kart circuit. Yes it's a fast circuit and COULD BE one of the best in the UK , if it wasn't for the poor circuit maintenance and extremely unreliable go karts.
They say they do 60mph! never will you reach that speed. Most of the time you end up switching karts because the one your driving will probably break down.
The protective equipment like your helmets and suits are absolutely disgusting, they smell even after they say they sanitise them.
The staff are miserable, I was welcomed by a horrid aggressive lady before my event it was like she was enslaved. And management is extremely poor.
To be honest the management couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. There are much better circuits around the UK to get better value for money. DAYTONA KARTING
I have to rate this as one star, yet I don't think it's even worthy of that.

A great introduction to the superbly balanced Porsche Cayman and the Thruxton circuit. My instructor Colin was fantastic, guiding me so that I could get the most out of my four laps around the track even on a slightly damp November afternoon.

Excellent day out . Booked for partners 'Big' Birthday. He did all the activities booked (Instructor laps...there were 2 passengers in the car. Some instructor laps had 3 passengers). He drove Porsche, Aston Martin, and was able to add on to drive F-Type Jag as well. His favourite was the Jag.

Had a great morning doing the 4x4 experience. Andy our instructor was brilliant, very knowledgeable and easy going. Great to be able to drive the defender and see what they are actually capable of. Highly recommended day out.

We paid for driving experience through groupon which costed £150 for my partners birthday present for him to drive Audi R8. He was so so excited and happy. Once there it was all very un organised which lead to lots of waiting around, when he finally got his turn he said it was rubbish. He wasn’t able to get the car over 45mph due to cars being in front of the track and not allowed to over take. The experience was rubbish and he said was boring. The car was dirty and had marked seats. The instructor was very nice however. Just a shame that it’s falsely advertised as fast sport car experience.
Very disappointed customers

First time at this circuit for BTCC weekend. We camped and found access to the track close to our pitch. We had a regular pitch which was fine for a decent sized tent and estate car. Please note your car has to fit in your box too. At night the area itself isn't lit but the portable toilet and shower area is. This leads me quite nicely to these toilets, well I use the term nicely very loosely. The smell of ammonia was choking at times as if the waste is just recycled round and round when they are flushed.
This being said the showers were reasonably clean and hot, though very busy at times.
There was nighty entertainment Saturday and Sunday in the paddock area we only went Sunday for the band which was very good. We had trouble getting served at the bar in the thruxton centre, not because it was busy, there was hardly anyone in there but because the female bar staff stand and chat at the end of the bar ignoring the fact that you are there.
Despite this we did have a great weekend and enjoyed the racing.

First time watching British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton. Loved the park and view for blue badge holders , accessible via gate 4. Great views from this banked area. We took our own food so did not use any of the food trucks on site. Yes it was busy getting out , what do you expect when approx 30,000 racing fans are trying to get out of the circuit at the same time. On the day we went the departure was well managed and we got out in under 45 minutes. Will be back at Thruxton for BTCC and BSB in 2023.

Is there any facilities for wheelchair users.

I think normally there are disabled toilets on site, and there's a lot of ramping, but the one thing you really need to be aware of is the size of the site, it's really big!
If you have one, this is the kind of site that would be seen easily using a powered chair. I should say quickly however that I didn't see any plug in points, at least obvious ones.
You might also find knobbly tyres useful. A lot of the viewing areas have pathways leading to them, but at the same time, there is a lot of grass and the occasional dirt path.

Hi Paul, I intend going to Truxton for the BSB motorcycle event and thought about camping. Can you tell me more about the campsite as I have a motorhome that is 8.4 m long and 3.1 m high, will I have a problem getting this into the camp site? and is it all grass are because if it rains my front wheel drive will just spin on the wet grass.

Sorry I can't help on this but if you ring the circuit they are generally really helpful. I would have thought that as this is a rural venue you would be ok.

Do you need a driving licence to be able to race these cars? Or do you need some time with the instructor to show that you can drive..?
Ben N
사우샘프턴, UK포스팅 2건
Hi, except for our junior driving experiences, yes you do need a full driving licence. As part of the track driving experiences, guests have time with a race instructor both as a passenger and driving to help learn the circuit and the racing lines.
Hope that helps.

Hi, I'm looking to plan the races I want to go to next season, and Thruxton is one that ive never bern too. I live over 3 and a half hours away from here and am wondering just how bad it is to get in and out of the car park for a big event ie BTCC. I've seen mixed things and as I've got a long drive home, I don't want to be stuck in a car park for ever. thanks

Hi. We have plenty of free car parking space so you'll always be able to park no matter what time you arrive.
Inevitably when large numbers of people all try and leave at the same time, this can cause a slight delay in getting out of the circuit. We do everything we can to minimise this.
We also recommend visitors stay after the last race for the podium celebrations and meet the teams and drivers in the paddock.
