Nothing to see here just gulls and a few greylag geese. It may be good in the spring and autumn but avoid the summer especially hot days.

Middleton Lakes
Hi Debra, thank you for visiting Middleton Lakes. The wetlands can definitely be a bit unforgiving in very hot weather so thank you for your feedback. With support from visitors we can hopefully improve our access to shade on the wetlands in the future. Other parts of the reserve, such as the woodland, can offer a great shaded area with lots of diverse wildlife to encounter. We hope to see you back at Middleton Lakes, the spring and autumn are a great time of year to explore nature.

Short distance from Tamworth

We visit Tamworth at different times each year and are always looking for something different to do and stumbled across Middleton Lakes when looking at Google Maps and what a delightful peaceful surprIse it turned out to be a mere 15 minutes away. After paying the £3 car park charge which goes to the RSPB who maintain this lovely nature reserve we were given helpful information from the lovely ranger to make the most of our visit and enjoyed our 2 hours strolling around the lakes, River Thame and Thame Valley Canal taking many photos of the landscapes and bird life in ample view including swans, gulls, ducks, blue tits, geese and many more.There’s even evidence of otters being present though we didn’t see any. Will definitely return on our next visit and take a picnic to enjoy a full day there.

Disappointed dog walker

Very limiting for dog walkers. Beautiful area. Restrictions spoiled our visit ( nothing to do with covid restrictions). This was shared by many fellow dig walkers we met. Signs were confusing.

Small piece of wildlife paradise

Visited during our canal holiday - the canal runs through the middle of this small paradise. Large area completely unspoilt by humans (for once). Met a couple of helpful bird watchers who helpfully pointed out various species. Went for a walk at dusk round the meadows and saw an owl plus many geese/swans/ducks on the fast flowing river.

I visited this reserve to pass a few hours whilst staying at Tamworth. Such a variety to see and I only touched the surface.

I did the woodland walk, ventured along the canal that runs through the reserve and then sat quietly watching the bird life on one of the lakes.

Although the car park was relatively busy when I arrived, once in the reserve it was very peaceful with plenty to see. Fellow visitors were all extremely friendly which was reassuring as I live in the south of England so was a little apprehensive walking in an area I'm totally unfamiliar with whilst on my own.

RSPB volunteers were as always very enthusiastic and informative. I would also like to mention a very young volunteer called George who explained the reserve map to me on arrival and was keen to hear how I'd got on when I returned. It was lovely to see someone of his age so excited by his role at the reserve. A very polite young man who is an asset to the reserve volunteers.

Thoroughly recommend.

Nice day out

Wanted a nice walk out and to do some bird watching so Middleton is about 309 minutes from where we live. It has a great set of walks around the lakes, river and canal. They have Covid instructions and guidance everywhere, so thumbs up to the volunteers. Feeders are placed around the walks to encourage the likes of Great Tits and Blue tits to appear. We saw Robins and Chaffinches too. A lot of CAnada Geese on the lakes along with Mallards but more exotic was the Cormorant and also some Lapwings too. In the main people were polite and socially distanced but whilst watching a narrow boat pass under the bridge someone decided to stand right beside me, time for a sharp Harp exit as the advert once said.. and they wonder why it is still on the rise! Parking is good and £3 for the day, good value. You can pay by card. Recommend this as a nice day out when the weather is fine as some of the walks are prone to getting muddy in heavy rain.

Pleasant walk

Never been here before, we had a pleasant walk around the area. Clearly an effort has been made to make it Covid safe with one way systems and plenty of sign posts. Well done to the volunteers.
We mixed up our walk taking in the river and the canal too and saw plenty of different birds. A nice, calm, peaceful couple of hours. Thanks you
