When I went to beaminster museum a few weeks ago I was delighted at all the interactive material there. The kids loved pretending to play the organ, my favourite part was the COVID 19 exhibit.

Lovely little museum with very helpful volunteers. Entry fee is a donation. Many different sections, so something for everyone.

Used to volunteer here before work commitments stopped me from doing so. Always friendly staff and the exhibits were put out in a professional manner. Very cheap to enter and would highly recommend their family history research.

Fantastic local museum, fun and interest for all ages!!

We had a brilliant morning at this gem of a local museum with our three girls aged 8-10. They loved the very interesting Crime and Punishment exhibition (and smugglers tunnel!) and thoroughly enjoyed following the clues to solve the mystery trail. Dressing up was an absolute winner as was the school room, then grown ups and kids alike lost themselves in the detailed and engaging displays about local history upstairs. The volunteers were so kind and helpful, showing the kids fossils and helping them with any tricky questions. It’s amazing what a wealth of information is on offer here- obviously real passion for local history has gone into recording and sharing it for others to discover and enjoy. Thank you for a great morning and for opening the kids’ eyes to how fascinating local history can be😊

Limited space, but fascinating historical detail on display.

This was our second visit to the little Museum just off the main square in this delightful Dorset village. It is housed in a former chapel and, although the space is limited, there is a first floor gallery above the ground floor rooms with a wealth of very interesting social history on display. The Museum's stewards are volunteers and very eager to describe and explain about the exhibits. What impressed us most was the detail included in all the written and visual displays, which must have taken long hours of research - with fascinating results. Hope to return again soon.

We’ve visited many local museums over the years and this is one of the best!

There is truly something for everyone - from information and exhibits about local fossils to the history of Beaminster and its development over the centuries. At the time of our visit there was a superbly presented exhibition about local crime and punishment over the last couple of hundred years (anyone for transportation to Australia for stealing a loaf of bread?).

One if the highlights of our visit was the friendliness and enthusiasm of the volunteers.

A local museum for all ages

We are not local to the area but we found this museum really interesting. There's a wide range of artifacts and a real mixture of items and exhibits. There's some interactive activities for young children, including fossil rubbing, dressing up and various buttons to press here and there. Some very moving war stories especially the letter from a father to his one year old son, knowing he wasn't to return from the war. Anyone who lives in Beaminster must be very proud of this informative and very interesting museum.

What a welcome,thank you Brian! So very informed, and exceptionally helpful. It was a Win-Win situation altogether; I had questions, and there were answers. A wealth of exhibits gave such a great insight into the area, history and life and times. Highly recommended.
