My husband and I visited the priory, well worth a visit, magnificent views of Lake of Menteith and a very comfortable walk around the island and a very serene place to soak up the ambiance of the ruins. Well worth a visit

Sadly after 2 hours the priory was closed due to adverse. The woman at the gate apologised.
Then she turned nasty, blamed us for not calling ahead, blamed the ticket company not emailing us. Aggressive behaviour. Poor customer service. Escalated a situation that did not need to be. Worst customer service ever

Fabulous visit but would definitely recommend booking your boat journey in advance as at peak times it was busy. Lovely boat journeys with knowledgeable staff!

A short, pleasant boat ride to the island with a lovely walk around to explore the island. Take a drink and snack and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

We went to the boat house to see if there was any availability to visit Inchmahome Priory . The lady who was going to be driving the boat was very courteous polite and very attentive to my friend who has a disability. She requested the people on the boat to shift seats so that my friend could hold onto the handrail whilst stepping into the boat. She did a safety talk and offered life jackets to anyone who wished to wear one. She was able to give a good talk on the history of the lake and the priory. It was very interesting. She made sure my friend felt safe and was able to step out of the boat safely. 10 out of 10 “Bev”
When we arrived on the Island she was very attentive to my friend and looked out for her as the path was uneven stating to my friend to just take her time. She was very kind.
The trip back was ok. It was a gentleman but I never caught his name. He too was polite and courteous but not quiet as thoughtful or attentive to my friends disability. (Not a complaint, just an observation)
We enjoyed the trip and had a nice day. When we arrived back at the car park and got into the car we realised my friend had dropped her iPhone cable from her pocket. We went into boat house but never saw it there. We left having not found it.
The next morning we were in a cafe and Bev came in with her walking group and recognise us. She asked me if we had dropped the cable as it had been handed in to the staff on the island. She told us it was there but we were heading home in the opposite direction. My friend asked Bev if she gave her the postage would she be able to post it to her. Bev said of course she didn’t hesitate, it was obvious she is a very kind person. My friend after telling Bev her name and address went to give her the money and Bev said no don’t be silly I’ll see to it.
Bev is an asset to the tourist company she works for and should be praised for her excellent service and for going above and beyond in her job as a tour guide. Well done Bev 10/10

The island is open for the 1st time in 4 years and it has been left to rewild while it was closed. Numbers to the island are also restricted so it was a lovely, peaceful experience. The boat is makes this a nice wee mini adventure. We felt like visitors to the animal's and bird's island. We spied a wee mouse, who was not phased by us, which was lovely. The staff were also really friendly, engaging and informative about the island, priory and wildlife. Prepare to find peace. Enjoy.

Would advise booking the day before. I didn't and turned up on the day with my family group of 11 and 3 children. Staff went out of their way to accommodate us and get us (and off) to the island.
5 minute boat trip to the island. We saw herons! 45 mins was plenty of time to see priory and walk around.
Thanks again to the staff for your kindness

Nothing against the island, or the restoration project, but had a very strange interaction with staff. My wife and I were taking honeymoon photos with a couple friends around Stirling and had the priory on our list of places to stop. At the boathouse, the first employee told us it was 10 pounds to enter, which sounded fine to us. But once we were on the dock waiting, a second employee emerged and aggressively told us it would be an additional 150 for a wedding party. When my wife tried to explain we weren't aware of that before visiting, he interrupted and said it's on the website (it's pretty buried in the information). I asked if I could talk it over with our group, and he left us. We had other friends joining and all were interested in seeing the priory, so we decided to ask if we could visit as tourists and leave our DSLR camera behind. He angrily told us that was impossible, and suggested we were trying to run some sort of scam based on how we were dressed. When I offered for us to change if that would make it possible, he lewdly suggested "Will your wife be crossing naked?", which I thought was just an unnecessary place to take the conversation. When it appeared that we were going to leave altogether, he suddenly had a change of mind and said if we left the camera in the car, we could visit for the regular rate (an offer we made several minutes before). By this point I was pretty frustrated by his attitude and the seemingly constant changing policy on the fly, but we went.
The site is certainly worth a visit. But if you are interested in photographs, you should know the priory itself currently has metal fencing on 80% of the structures in all directions as it's being worked on, so not really worth the additional 150 pounds for photography in my opinion. We were also a little shaken up from the interaction on the dock that we opted to not risk taking any photos on our phones during our visit in case another employee took issue with our clothes or whatever.
On the boat ride back, the driver, who had been generally friendly during the visit, started to repeatedly push that we go have a drink at the local hotel. We told him we had plans, but he continued to try and convince us to go there for most of the ride, which was awkward when you're just trying to enjoy the lake.
I can understand they are wanting to make this a profitable attraction for tourists and raise money to protect the site. But there is a way of going about it that isn't so grating, aggressive, and uncaring. If you want visitors to spend money, you have to treat them decently, or they'll go elsewhere and won't recommend it to others. If the employees hadn't been so heavy handed, I might have come around to the idea of spending extra, but who wants to be yelled at as part of the sales job? I suggest whoever is in charge take a hard look at their customer service and decide who they want to be in the face-to-face interactions with visitors, because right now it's pretty unwelcoming. Won't be back.

Such a beautiful place to visit. Just opened back up with a online booking system. Easy to pick time slot and means no waiting time when you arrive. Staff are brilliant, love the new discovery sensory boxes there're trying out for the children. Children get to explore the island with a box to find items cold, soft, dry, hard ect. Lots of wildlife to see like ducks, otters and red squirrels.

The guide told us about a hybrid tree which is located behind the visitor centre. It has two different kinds of leaves. Does anyone know what type of trees it is a hybrid off? Thanks.

We will be there on a Saturday in May. Is the boat jetty near the lakeside resort? How often does it run? Thank You
2018년 4월 5일 작성
We picked up the boat off the pier behind a wonderful inn with restaurant. I can’t guarantee timing in May, as we were there in summer. The day we caught it, the boatman simply ferried passengers to and from continuously. The wait was about 12 mins or so.

I am pretty sure dogs are welcome on the island as long as they are kept on a lead. I would give them a call before heading off just to make sure though.

Hi,
My sister and I are planning a visit on the 30th April (afternoon) or 2nd May. Will the ferry be available to the priory? I also wondered if a visit to Inchtalla were possible? I am in the process of writing a novel and access would be wonderful. Thank you kindly, Tracey-anne.

Hi Tracey
Yes the boat runs regularly every day between 10am and 4.15pm and the trip out to the island takes about 7 minutes. We occasionally have to suspend sailings if it is too rough for a safe landing,so suggest phoning the site staff on 0783 631 3769 if the wather is particularly windy.
We don’t land on Inchtalla, so would suggest making contact with the the fisheries who run the fishing boats on the lake to see if they would be ableto arrange to take you there. Their contact details are
Menteith Fisheries, Quint Glen, Fishery Managers Office, Gateside Cottage, Port of Menteith, FK8 3RD 07710 433464
We hope you enjoy your visit
